Adams, Upson Solon,
| Wants State Chairman of
Demo Party to Resign
l
Atlanta, Nov. 21—Defeat of the
County Unit Amendment in the
Nov. 4 election led to a demand
that J. S. Peters, one of its chief
advocates, get out as State Demo
cratic Chairman.
Upson County Rep. Owen Adams
assailed Peters for throwing the
party, its finances and all its mem
bers “who would join him” into the
campaign for the amendment. He
declared that the voters in reject
ing the amendment repudiated
Peters and that he thinks the party
head should resign.
I Peters, at his Manchester home,
retorted that Adams was only try
ing to get his name in the papers
and he did not think the legisla
tor’s statement merits a reply,
i “The people have spoken,” said
Peters, “and I think it is time to
quit talking about it at the pres
ent.”
The amendment, which would
have made Georgia’s unit system
for counting primary election votes
a part of hte State Constitution,
was defeated by a 29,000-vote mar
gin in the general election refer
endum.
