Bibb County Sheriff
To Take His Case
To Voters of State
Macon, Jan. 21—Sheriff J. I.
Wood said Thursday he is preparing
to take his case against those at
tacking him "directly to the peo
ple of Bibb county.”
At the same time, Wood said he
will personally ask the Bibb county
commissioners to relieve him of
criminal matters now handled un
der his supervision and to set up a
separate county police force.
• This was recommended to com
missioners by the Bibb County
grand jury in a special presentment
Wednesday in which it declared
the citizens of Bibb county have
lost confidence in the sheriff “to
provide efficient law enforcement."

Atlanta—Alarmed by complaints
of many chiefs throughout the state
Safety Fire Commissioner today re
iterated the importance of prompt
reporting of fires to the fire de
partments.
“Chiefs are reporting serious fires
which could have been avoided had
house occupants turned in an
alarm as soon as the blazes were
discovered,” he declared.
The commissioner said that in
stead the occupants had made the
mistake of trying to extinguish the
fires themselves.
“Fire extinguishers are excellent
for emergency use,” he pointed out
“But, after all, they are only first
aid measures. The fire department
should be called before ‘home reme
dies' like tossing water from a pail
or using your hqnd extinguisher.
“Sure, use those home remedies
but while you are employing them
be sure someone has called the
fire department. Then you have the
assurance professional help is on
the way.
“A small fire can become a bife
one in a surprisingly short time.
In communities, notably.. Bain-
bridge, where the residents have
been educated to report fires im
mediately, the amount of damage
has been greatly reduced. Seconds
saved are precious; they not only
will save dollars but lives too, per
haps your own.”

1 But the harassed lawmakers have
not been able to find much they
can do.

Feel how Ford's new Ball-Joint Front
Suspension cushions the bumps.
You’ll find a new kind of ride . . . level and smooth
.. even on rough, rutted roads. And, because Ford’s
new ball-joint front suspension is simpler than the
conventional type . . . with 12 points of wear elimi
nated . . . that “new car” feel lasts longer.
Look at your beautiful surroundings.
You’ll see why Ford interiors for ’54 set a new high
in beauty. For here is a matchless blending of fabric,
color and styling. Every detail says “fine car” quality
from the new upholstery and trim to the unique new
Astra-Dial Control Panel. And you’ll find there’s
all the “living room” you’ll ever want or need.
you take a Test Drive. And you’ll discover that this new “Go” is youjs through the full
range of driving speeds! Both of Ford’s new engines have an extra-deep block extending
well below the crankshaft, giving the V-8 a “Y” shape, the Six an “f ’ shape—and you
a more rigid, smoother, quieter engine. Both are short-stroke engines, too, vyhich means
less internal friction, more usable energy, greater gas savings and long engine life.
