The Blue-Gray Lines
(By Pope Booth)
The Blue-Gray lines have vanished
in the ages,
To a more remote place in history's
pages;
They are now the humble, lowly
trodden sod,
Their souls forever in the hands of
God.
For my prayer is the same as in
days of yore,
And my hope is much the same as
before:
Of what remains and of what one
finds,
Forever and ever, God bless the
Blue-Gray lines.
Since internal rupture the land has
come a long way
And healed is the sickness of the
Blues and Grays;
Honored today in united death are
the Grays and Blues,
For lost in the Ages is their
troublous bruise.
Those who fought for the prize and
spilled brother’s blood,
P>ave stemmed the tide and
crossed Jordan’s flood;
In some unknown, far-off realm,
they await His tempest call,
To meet their maker like the rest
of us all.
