Celebrated 90th Birthday
Saturday at His Home
James Henry Saunders who is
“Uncle Jim" to Reynolds celebrated
his 90th birthday at his home in
Reynolds.
Mr. Saunders whose parents were
Martha Mitchell Saunders and J. Hi. 1
Saunders, has spent his entire life,
in Reynolds, except for a two-year
stay in Rebecca. He has farmed,,
Iren a carpenter and a blacksmith. 1
! And for all the square dances,
when he was a young man, he
I played the violin.
| Still active he helps his son-in-1
law in the mercantile business |
every day and each day he spends
i some time working in his garden, j
Mr. Sanders’ wife, the former
Emmie Peacock died in 1928- He
has two daughters. Mrs. Hicks
Trussell of Reynolds,with whom he
makes his home, and Mrs. Phil [
Pathelson of Atlanta. He has a sis
ter. Mrs. Bessie Duckworth of Co
lumbus who is 83. and a brother
Cart Sanders of Reynolds, who is 81
years old. ?
Mr. Sanders attributes his long
life to the fact that hi “never wor
ries” and that he has “always
lived a clean life.’

An Ordinance regulating the use
and maintenance of Garbage Cans
and other sanitary facilities: i
Be it ordained by the Mayor and
Council of the City of Reynolds,
and it is hereby enacted by the au
thority of same, that from and after
the passing of this Ordinance that
it be required of each home and
place of business requiring such fa
cilities to possess and maintain in
good order and condition, one or 1
more (as the requirements may bet
metal garbage cans or receptacle
with metal lid to cover, and that
such receptical be kept at a con
venient place for collection by the
garbage collector—and that all gar
bage for removal shall be placed in
said container.
That it shall be a violation of
this Ordinance to leave garbage in
open cans or reeepticals and shall
be punishable by such measures as 1
set forth in Section No. 30- 1
It is further enacted fhat any Or- |
dinance in conflict with this Act is
hereby repealed.

F. G. Nelms Not to be
Transferred from Blind
Academy at Macon
Atlanta, May 13—State School
Supt. M. D. Coilins said today that
he will not transfer F. G. Nelms,
superintendent of the- Georgia
Academy for the Blind at Macon,
who four months ago faced dis
missal over the whipping of ,an in-
nlate.
The decision reversed previous
plans to transfer Nelms to another
division of the State Department of
Educaion and replace him as head
of the blind institution-
principal Robert Long who was
involved with Nelms in the contro
versy over the whipping adminis
tered 12 year old Lewis Thomas,
has been transferred to the voca
tional education division of the]
Education Department.
Long whipped the Thomas boy
twdee last January. An angry up
roar was touched off when the boy
partially disrobed to display his j
bruised body to the State Board of
Education.

Friday Night April 30 at a fund-raising dinner for Lt. Governor
Marvin Griffin. Leonard Conger left. Finance Chairman and Vance
Custer, General Chairman of the fund-raising dinner—are shown
presenting Marvin Griffin with a record breaking check for $13,500.00
to help finance the Bainbridge newspaperman’s campaign for Gov
ernor. Mr. Griffin told the assemblage that he would qualify and
announce for Governor when the State Democratic Executive Com-
