Early, Wheeler Says
According to Pete Wheeler, Di
rector of the State Department of
Veterans Service, enlisted men in
the United States Coast Guard
may be released or discharged at
any time within three mernths be
fore the expiration of their present
term of enlistment or reenlist-'
ment.
Wheeler stated that Public Law
67 of the 84th Congress, which
was approved on June 8, amends
the United States Code to provide
that under the regulations pre
scribed by the Secretary of the
respective department in which
the Coast Guard is operating at
the time, any enlisted man of the
Coast Guard may be discharged
or released three months prior to
the expiration date of his present
discharge, without prejudice to
any right, privilege or benefit that
he would have received, except
pay and allowances for the un
expired period not served.
Wheeler stated that this early
release policy has been utilized
by other branches of the Armed
Forces from time to time, pri
marily to allow those affected to
enter or re-enter school, and in
certain instances, to return to cer
tain types of farm and industry
work.'
Wheeler invited all recently
discharged veterans to contact the
local Field Office of the Depart
ment of Veterans Service to in
quire about the veterans program.

HOME COMING DAY OBSERVED
AT MT. OLIVE CHURCH
Sunday was a big day a* Mt.
Olive Church, Taylor Mill; it was
home coming day which had been
loked forward to since last year.
It was a great day for another
reason too, it followed a very
spiritual and successful revival led
by Rev. Chester Huckaby from
Florida. There were services at
both morning and evening hours
and each were well attended.
The church was filled to capaci
ty Sunday morning. Visitors were
recognized from Warner Robins,
Columbus, Phenix City, Ala., Ideal
Butler and Reynolds.
After the service, everyone was
invited outside for lunch. There
was chicken, ham, meat loaf, sal
ads of all kinds, pies and cakes of
I eveiy flavor, tea and lemonade.
There was so much food that it
was hardly missed from the table
after everyone had eaten. Rev.
Hollaman pastor - of the church
graced the table and after every
one had finished, everyone re
turned to the church for an after
noon of singing. Several specials
were rendered as well as congre
gational singing.
At the close of the singing
everyone left with the feeling they
were glad thev came.
A young Eastman couple—Mr.
and Mrs, David Foster, ages 23
and 28 respectively—was burned
to death early Sunday morning
as a neighbor frantically tried to
break in their darkened home to
save them.
