One of the most interesting of
its previous 91 annual sessions of
the Columbus District Conference
convened at the Butler Methodist
Church Tuesday.
Rev. and Mrs. H. C. Marx were
official hosts of the occasion and
deserve much credit for services
well rendered and had at their
right hand the able assistance of
all members of the local church.
There were more than three
hundred delegates present repre
senting all Methodist churches
from the Flint to the Chattahoo
chee rivers and from Woodland on
the North to Georgetown on the
South.
The day’s session which was
presided over by Rev. Roy McTyer
Superintendent of the district,
opened at 9:30 a. m. and adjourned
at 3:30 p. m.
For the first time in the history
of the Columbus Methodist District
a woman was recommended as a
local preacher. Miss Clara Sue Me
Saturday afternoon 4:45 o’clock
at his home in this city occurred
the death of Mr. John T. Cox. who
had been an invalid for the past
several years attributed to com
plications.
Mr. Cox. was born in Taylor
County Jan. 25, 1874, the son of the
late Mr. S. H. Cox and the late
Mrs. Josephine H. Cox. His wife,
Mrs. Annie L. Cox, died about
five years ago.
The deceased was a life-long
citizen of Taylor county and he
was a successful farmer of Mt.
Pisgah community for many years.
A number of years ago he sold
the farm and establisded a home
and small scale poultry farm here
a.number of years ago and operat
ed same until declining health
necessitated his retirement from
active duty a few years ago.
Mr. Cox was a member of Mt.
Pisgah church and had served on
the board of deacons in past years.
Funeral services were conducted
at this church Sunday, 3 p. m.,
by the pastor Rev. Z. L. Perdue,
assisted by Rev. Charles Cunning
ham, pastor of the Butler Church
of the Nazarene.

deceased were Messrs Foy and
Hubert Calhoun, Newly Elected
Judge of Circuit, Presided at

Superior Court adjourned Tuesday
afternoon after being in session
for only two days.
Court will reconvene Friday—
tomorrow—morning at which time
the case of Otis Turner, colored,
accused of cow stealing will be
heard. The jury for this case has
been selected and all other jurors
dismissed.
Judge Hubert Calhoun of Colum
bus, one of the newly elected
judges of the Chattahoochee circuit
presided over this term of court.
Solicitor General John H. Land
of Columbus, represented the
State in all criminal cases and as
sisted the grand jury in their in
vestigations. He was recently re
elected to office for a four year
term which began Jan. 1st.
The numerous friends of Hon. R.
O. Perkins, court reporter, will be
interested to learn that he has ac
cepted the re-appointment as of
ficial Court Reporter of the Ju
dicial Circuit. Mr. Perkins has
completed 41 years’ service as
court reporter.
