Atlanta Youths Admit
Slaying Professor for
Purpose of Robbery
Atlanta, Ga. — Three Atlanta
youths have admitted the fatal
beating of aGeorgia Tech associate
professor in a robbery which net
ted them $5 each, police report.
Detective Jordan identifield them
as Paul F. Ardeeser, 19; Andrew J.
Evans, and Donald G. Little.
The three were arrested and de
tained for investigation in the slay
ing and robbery July 19 of Dr. W.
K. Pursley, 32, associate professor
of physics at Georgia Tech.
Jordan said Ardeeser was arrested
in a hospital corridor as he peered
through a window into a nursery
to see his week-old child. The
other two are fathers of newly born
sons, the lieutenant said.
Police said ' the three signed
statements admitting they stopped
Pursley, a native of Clover, S. C.,
early Friday to ask directions qnd
got into an argument and a fight.

Wholesale Food Prices
Rise for Fourth Week
Rising the fourth successive
week, the Wholesale Food Price
Index, compiled by Dunn & Brad-
street. went to $6.35 on July 23rd,
from $6.31 the week before, to set
a new high since June, 1955 when
it stood at $6 *2.
The current figure represents an
increase of 4.4 per cert over the
$6.08 for the corresponding date a
year ago.
Higher in wholesale price this
week were flour, corn, barley,
hams bellies, beans, eggs, ho^s and
lambs. Lower in cost were wheat
rye, oats, lard, sugar, cottonseed
oil. cocoa and potatoes.
The Dunn & Bradstreet Wholesale
Food Price Index represents the
sum total of the price per pound of
31 raw foodstuffs and meats in
general use.

Death Toll Reported
Heavy in Mexico's
Severe Quakes Sunday
Mexico City, July 28—Earth
quakes struck central and south
ern Mexico early Sunday and
more than 100 persons were re
ported killed.
The city was hit hard, with 30
known dead and 450 injured. Many
large buildings colapsed.
The death list grew as reports
began flowing in from distant
points.
A dispatch from Morelia quoted
Gov. David Franco Rodrigues as es-
mating there were 72 dead in the
southwestern state of Michoracan,
in the regions of Ario de Rosales
and Coalcoman, about 40 miles in
land from the Pacific Coast.
The U. S. Embassy said it had no
reports of American fatalities.
Seven persons, including a hotel
owner were reported killed in Chil-
pancingo, capital of the State of
Guerrero and two in the resort city
of Acapaulco.
The office of President Adolfo
Ruiz Cortines said in a bulletin it
had heard of material damage and
death only in the State of Guerrero
and the Federal District. Acapulco
is in Guerrero State.
The bulletin praised the calm
and cooperation of the capital’s
residents and said the disaster had
not turned out to be the catastro
phe feared at first.
Communications were disrupted
between the capital and most of
the quake area.
A total of 57 years of service
with the U. S. Armed forces has
been accumulated by four Upson
County brothers. They are sons of
Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Christopher.
A senior millwright at Robins
Air Force Base, Mr. Tribble appar
ently lost his life while swimming
recently. It was not immediately
known whether he suffered a heart
attack or drowned or some other
reason.
Rev. G. N. Byrd, pastor of the
Westlawn Baptist church, Macon,
since June 1, 1955, has announced
his resignation effective Sept. 1.
He will complete his education at
Mercer University and to supply
pulpit work.
