Woodmen of the World
Hakes New High Gains
During Past Two Years
New high gains in insurance in
force and assets in the past two
years were reported by Pres. H. M.
Lundgren to Woodmen of the World
Life Insurance Society’s biennial
National Convention, July 22-25, in
New York City.
With a gain of $23,879,548, insur
ance in force increased to a new
high of $605,062,612.
The Society maintained its posi
tion as world’s financially strang
est fraternal benefit society with
reserve ratios (assets over liabili
ties) greater than that of any other
insurance organization. Assets in
creased $10,932,725, bringing the
the total to a new high of $209,-
945,113.
Benefits paid to members in the
past two years totaled $24,876,673.
Since the Society was founded in
1890, it has paid members and ben
eficiaries $495862,066.
Woodmen members, numbering
more than 427,000, received in
1956 the largest savings refunds in
the Society’s history, $2,200,000.
The convention re-elected Chair
man of the Board E. D. Rivers,
Lakeland, Ga.; President H. M.
Lundgren, Omaha, Neb., and all
other directors for four-year terms.
Vice President J. N. Cochran, Oma
ha, director for field and member
ship, was elected an ex-officio
member of the board.
Directors include Max Hurt, ex
ecutive v-president, and J. R. Sims,
secretary, both of Omaha'; J. B.
Cobb, treasurer, Nashville, Tenn.,
and Directors C. A. Hines, Greens
boro, N. C ; A. L. Yantis, Shelby-
ville, 111.; T. A. Heise, Columbia, S.
C.: J. E. Long, Albany, N. Y.; R.W.
Ervin, Tallahassee, Fla.; J. O. Hol
lis, Carthage, Miss; R. L. Kirk, Lit
tlefield, Tex.; R. N. Dosmann, San
Antonio, Tex.; L. T. Oliver, Rich
mond, Va.; and C. W. Goodwin,
Omaha.
The office of DeEmmett Bradshaw
of Omaha, honorary chairman of
the board, is not subject to election.
Ex-officioo director W. E. Mooney,
vice president and general attorney
and H. B. Kennedy, M.D., vice pres
ident and medical director, were
also re-elected.
Mr. Lundgren was elected presi
dent Oct. 13, 1955. He is a native
of Omaha and youngest president
in Woodmen history. He has been
with the Society nearly 30 years, is
a past head consul of the Nebraska
Head Camp. He is vice president of
the National Fraternal Congress.
Mr. Rivers is a former Governor
of the State of Georgia.He has been
a Woodman more than 40 years, is
a past head consfcl of Georgia and
former state manager of Florida. He

Moultrie Goes 13
Months Without Single
Traffic Fatality
Moultrie, Aug. 2—Moultrie has
just passed its 13th consecutive
month without a traffic fatality.
Police Chief C. R. Ranew reports
19 automobile accidents were in
vestigated during July. It was the
second consecutive month without
an injury.
The totals for the seven months
of this year show 158 accidents, 9
injuries and no fatalities. During
the same period last year there
were 156 accidents, 18 injuries and
two deaths.
The most accidents this year oc
curred in May when there were 30
collisions. February and July were
the most accident-free. There were
18 and 19 accidents, respectively, in
these months.

Island, July 24 commemorating
Chas. A. Lindbergh’s historic flight
to Paris May 20, 1927. Lt. Gen A. C.
Wedemeyer former deputy chief of
staff and Far East Ambassador,
was principal speaker. He was in
troduced by U. S. Senator R. L.
Hruska, Nebraska, a member of
the Society’s National Fraternal
Committee.
