Dr. and Mrs. Gray Fountain and

Mrs. Herman Amos spent sev
eral days in Gainesville visiting
her brother, Mr. Ralph J. Pope, re
turning home Wednesday.

His numerous friends were de
lighted to see Mr. A1 Fehring down
town Tuesday after a serious ill
ness. He was released from the
Macon hospital a few days ago.
Mrs. Emory Harris, Mrs. D. M.
Harris, Mrs. Art Terrell, Mrs. Les
lie Mackey and Mrs. C. O. White
attended the Regional Meeting at
the First Baptist Church in Ft. Val
ley Friday.

daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Felker
of Warner Robins and Mr. and Mrs.
D. M. Harris.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Clark and

Butler; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wain-
right and daughter, Bonnie, of
Douglas, were guests of Rev. and
Mrs. Arman Bazemore at Edison,
Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Basil Rigney left
for Covington Monday. Mr. Rigney
will leave for Ft. Jackson Sunday
where he will enroll in the Army.
Mr. Lee Knowles of Columbus,
replaced Mr. Rigney as director
of the School Band.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronny Sammons
of Columbus have recently taken .
up residence in Butler.Mr. Samons j
is connected with the Independent
Life' Insurance Company. Local
citizens welcome these young peo
ple and hope they will enjoy liv
ing in Butler.
Spending Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Vernon Reddish and family
were Mrs. Ruby Lovern, Misses
Florrie and Ollie Andrews of
Athens. Their visit was on behalf
of Mrs. Reddish who is ill at her
home. We hope for Mrs. Reddish
a speedy recovery.
Sheriff Charlie Wright who re
cently underwent major surgery at
the local hospital expects to re
turn to his home Friday. His many
friends are delighted to learn that
the sheriff is recuperating satis
factorily, and hope he may soon
be back at usual post of duty.
The many friends of Mr. and
Mrs. Lathan Waters extend them a
cordial welcome back home. Mr.
and Mrs. Waters moved from this
city five years ago to reside at Li-
zella. This esteemed former local
couple is residing on Oak Street
in the J. R. Wilson house located
two blocks south of the public
square.

Whereas: Georgia’s forests are
one of the greatest natural re
sources, cover two-thirds of the
land area of the state, and con
stitute the greatest agricultural
crop of the state; and
Whereas: The state’s woodlands
provide the raw materials for
manufacturing operations which re
turn the landowners and industry
more than $750,000,000 each year;
and
Whereas: Conservation and wise
utilization of forest products be
comes increasingly important to
our state and community; now
Therefore: I, S. Ernest Vandiver,
Governor of Georgia, do hereby
proclaim Feb. 20, as Arbor Day in
the state of Georgia and do here
by call on and urge every citizen
of the state to give attention to
this observance and to at all times
protection, development and per
petuation of the great forest re
support, aid and take part in the
sources.

BTU Study Course
Planned March 2-3
The BTU study course in prepa
ration of the Evangelistic Simul
taneous Crusade, is announced for
Feb. 23-24 and March 2 and 3,
beginning at 7:30 on each of these
evenings. This is for adults thru
juniors. Each book will be on the
theme of Personal Soul Winning.
Mr. Charlie Hart, BTU director,
urges all to attend each session,
of this course.
Birth Announcement
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jackson of
Houston, Texas, announce the birth
of a daughter, Cynthia Lee, on Dec.
28, 1958. Mrs. Jackson was the
former Miss Joyce McChargue,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D.
McChargue of Houston, Tex., for
merly of Butler.

Society met at the church Feb. 4th.
The meeting was called to order
by Mrs. Almgreen, vice president,
in the absence of Mrs. Cunning
ham, the president.
Devotional by Miss Janie Neisler
on giving; stressing the alabaster
offering.'
Mrs. Almgren gave the study
chapter on Syria.
Prayer requests were read from
The Other Sheep.
A season of prayer was partici
pated in by each one present.
World Day of Prayer was ob
served by ladies of the Missionary
Society at the home Misses Mary
E. and Janie Neisler on Feb. 13th.
All of our 28 Missionary Fields
were remembered during the day
of prayer.
A covered lunch was served at
lunch hour.

Miss Smith, Mr. Collins
Will Marry Saturday at
Home of Bride's Mother
Plans are announced for the
wedding of Miss Ann Smith of But
ler and Roberta, daughter of Mrs.
Marion M. Smith and the late Mr.
Smith to Marion Collins of Cuth-
bert and Camilla, son of G. D.
Collins, Sr. 1 and the late Mrs.
Collins.
Miss Smith is a graduate of
Crawford County High School and
the University of Georgia. She has
been employed by the Georgia Ag
ricultural Extension Service for
the past several years in Early and
Taylor Counties.
Mr. Collins, a graduate of Ca
milla High School and the Uni
versity of Georgia, served as cap-
tann in the Army during World
War II. He is employed by FHA
at Cuthbert.
The wedding will be an event of
next Saturday, 4:30 p. m., at the
home of the bride’s mother in Ro
berta.
Miss Ann Smith
Honored at Dinner Party

Miss Ann Smith, whose marriage
to Mr. Marion Collins will take
place Saturday, was honored by
Miss Louise Hill with a dinner
party Tuesday evening.
The table, covered with dusty
rose linen, was centered with silver
candelabara holding dusty rose
candles and red camellias. Red
ribbons from the candelabra, fall
ing at each place, held two red
hearts. Dinner was served by can
dle light.
Flowering cherry, camellias, and
hearts were used in the decora
tions throughout the house.
Invited guests included: The
honoree and Miss Charlene Cooper
of Americus, Misses Marion New
som and Melodye Hill of Reynolds,
Misses Bertha Bazemore and Mar
gie Jarrell of Butler, Mesdames
Vernon Reddish, Clem Adams, Jor
dan Giles and Hugh Gilson also of
Butler.
After dinner, canasta and bridge
were enjoyed by the guests. The
hostess presented the honoree with
a serving piece in her silver.
Hattie Rawls Circle
Met February 9th at
Home of Mrs- Mott
The Hattie Rawls Circle of the
Woman’s Missionary Union, But
ler Baptist Church, met at the
home of Mrs. Grover Mott on Feb.
9th, with 12 members and one
visitor present.
Mrs. Hoyt Clark was in charge
of the program entitled “The Co
operative Program Dollar Stretches
Far”,* assisted by Mrs. Mott and
Mrs. A. E. Locke. Mrs. W. S. Payne
gave the first chapter of the mis
sion book entitled “Ways of Wit
nessing” by John Caylor.
Mrs. H. .H Riley, co-chairman,
presided over the business session.
Reports were given by the standing
committees.
Refreshments were served by the
hostesses, Mrs. Mott and Mrs. J. R.
Gray.

Met February 3rd
The Lydia Wilke Chapter of the
Junior Missionary Society met at
the Nazarene Church at 7:30 p. m.
on Feb. 11th* for the monthlymeet
ing. Opening prayer was by Miss
Janie Neisler.
Several were absent on account
of sickness, so Sharon Bohler pre
sided, gave the devotional and led
the singing.
Melodie Bohler gave a poem en
titled “Sharing” and gave the
treasurer’s report and collected the
offering. All took part in interest

called the meeting to order.

H. D. Club presented the devotion

the roll and read the minutes of
last meeting. Year books were dis
tributed among the members. The

ice with prayer.

This is our last meeting that we
will have our H-D Agent, Miss Ann
Smith, present. She wished us a
big success and said she was con
fident local Clubs would gob ahead
with the work she had mapped out
for the year. But even so, we re
gret to see Miss Smith go; however
we wish her the best of luck and

Butler FFA-FHA Groups
Sponsor Party for Feb. 26
The FFA and FHA Clubs of But
ler High School are having a party
as a climax to FFA Week which
occurs Feb. 22-28. This event
which will be informal, will take
place on Feb. 26th at the school
cafeteria from 7:30 to 10:30 p. m.
The highlight of the occasion
will come when Miss FHA and Mr.
FFA are crowned. This will come
as a surprise to these two people
since no one will know but the ad
visors, Mrs. James T. Smith and
Mr. Harold Ragan and the four
main officers of each Club. These
will select Miss FHA and Mr. FFA
one the basis of who has done most
for each Chapter.
The festivities will include
games, folk, and rock ’n roll danc
ing, music, refreshments and the
crowning of Miss FHA and Mr.
FFA as described above. All mem
bers of these two Chapters are
urged to attend and participate in
the activities.
We are sure that everyone pres
ent will enjoy the evening.

Inspiration WMU Meeting
Thursday at Montezuma
The Spring Inspirational meeting
for the Rehoboth Association WMU
is announced for Feb. 19th at
Montezuma.
We have been fortunate this
year in arranging this meeting for
both day and nighl so that every
one can attend. The day meetings
begin at 10:30 a. m. and the pro
gram will be repeated at 7:30 p.m.
Bring sandwiches for lunch and
the Montezuma ladies are gra
ciously providing the rest of the
noon meal. There will be a nurs
ery.
Guests that day will be Mrs. E.
W. Waldemayer, divisional vice-
president, Miss Sarah Stephens
from State WMU office and Rev.
W. H. Bryant, Chile, a missionary
speaker.
