Griffin Man Dies
When Car Hits Pole
A Griffin resident was killed
Monday when the car ’he was driv
ing went out of control on a curve

unincorporated south Fulton coun
ty, police said.
Patrolmen H. Mosley and J. L.
McLendon said the body of Alva G.
Powers, 33, was found 30 to 40
feet from where the auto struck
the pole.

Four Children
Brutally Injured;
Mother Accused
North Charleson, S. C. — Four
battered young children remained
• in critical condition Saturday the
victims of a savage hammer at

apparently turned on the children
Friday in what was reconstructed
as a frantic screaming, bloody
scenein the Prohaska’s home in a
stylish residential district.
“There was blood everywhere
except in the bedrooms,” said
Miles. “It was a terrible thing.’’
The Prohaska children, John, 10;
Anna Maria, 8; Mark Raymond,
and David 1, underwent surgery
throughout the night as doctors
worked on their battered heads.
Each child suffered a severe skull
fracture.
The two oldest children were re
ported considerably improved and
the two younger tots were reported
to be holding their own.

As Car Hits Scooter
Atlanta, Ga. — Bodies of ; j\vp
and bits of wreckage were scat
tered over a wide area of the Ex
pressway after a car — believed by
the law to be hitting a hundred —
crashed into abutments of a bridge
on the South Expressway one
morning last week.
The wreck killed a man and q
woman and injured seriously three
other persons. It occurred at,Pryor
street bridge.
Officers said the car involved
was as badly torn up as any they

bodies of the dead were badly bat
tered, the woman 'having suffered
a “severe” head injury.
“We found a car fender beside
the woman’s body 200 feet away
from the demolished car,” Officers

to death in the kitchen of his du
plex apartment in Hapeville a few
days ago police reported.
