Hotel Oil Tank
Leaks in River
SAVANNAH, Ga., May—A Savan
nah hotel found itself in serious
trouble with the local Coast Guard
Saturday.
Fuel oil leaking into the Savan
nah River was traced to a 500 gal
lon tank in the Matnger Hotel
where it is used to fire the boilers.
A substitute tank was installed
when it was found that the fuel
was leaking into a main sewerage
line.
Lt. C. W. Jenkins, Coast Guard
captain of the Port of Savannah,
said he will file a federal com
plaint against the hotel under the
Oil Pollution Act of 1924. Convist-
ion punishable by a fine of from
$500 to $2,500 imprisonment of
from 30 days to.one year, or both.
The Coast Guard, city engineers
and city firemen were summoned
after the oil leaked into the river
at the foot of East Broad Street
from a main. Fumes had concen
trated to the exten that a fire ha
zard resulted, officials said.

TAKE A GIANT STEP!
You, and your State of Georgia, are standing on a “new frontier” in both national and
worldwide trade! Seize this moment in time ... the dawning era of the sixties ... join
hands in a statewide dedication of citizens to provide greater economic gains and benefits
for every section of our State.
One. giant step in this direction will be the Governor’s Conference on Trade and Commerce
in Atlanta, May 21st through 23rd. It represents a unique, all out, effort to stimulate a
rapid expansion of the economy of the State of Georgia. Already, more than fifty spon
soring organizations have volunteered their time and their capabilities for the task ahead.
It is a true indication of progress when the citizens of a state, from the Governor himself to
the local leaders in the smallest towns, take the time to meet with experts in various indus
tries ... to learn from them ... and to have them learn of our great industrial and agricul
tural resources.
