Twenty-One Georgians G. I/s Admit Slaving
Were Killed Violently 2 Valdosta Women
During Last Week-End And Five Others
Atlanta, Ga. — Twenty-one Geor
gians, including a father and his
two sons, and a mother and her
daughter, were killed in a variety
of accidents in three steates dur
ing the week end.
In addition, an Alabama youth
died when his drag race vehicle
plunged into a river in Harris
county.
Six of the victims drowned, one
died in a plane crash, a man died
in a fire and a woman was acci
dentally killed.
Officers said two traffic acci
dents one near Ball Ground Sun
day and other near Crystal River,
Fla. Saturday were responsible for
the death of nine Georgians.
The dead in the fatal mishap
near Ball Ground, according to
State Trooper Bill Lee, were:
Lawrence Cloud, 61; his sons
Tommy Lawrence Cloud, 20, and
Buel F. Cloud and Grady M. Can
trell, 27, all of Ball Ground.
The father succumbed from in
juries received in the accident Sun
day at a Canton hospital.
Trooper Lee said the deaths
grew out of head on collision of
two cars Sunday near Ball Ground
in Cherokee county. Mr. Cantrell
was a passenger in a car operated
by Dona Padgett, 19, Ball Ground,
the officer said.
After the head-on collision a
third auto crashed into the auto
occupied by the Clouds, trooper
Lee addede.
Five Georgians lost their lives
Saturday in a head on collision
of U.S. 19 near Crystal River, Fla.
The dead in one car were identi
fied as Margaret Littleton, 37 and
Etta Yancey, 62, both of Columbus.
Killed in the other car were W. L.
Sparks, 36; wife, Wilma Sparks, and
daughter, Chari, 6, all of Mariet
ta.
A state patrol radio operator
said Georgia week end traffic ac
cidents, in addition to the one near
Ball Ground, also killed four oth
er persons.
Victims listed included: Norman
Habshey, 20, of Birmingham, Ala.,
died when the car he was operat
ing left a drag strip in Harris
county and plunged into a river.
The driver was strapped in the
auto at the time of the accident,
which occurred Sunday p.m
M. C. Bennett, 68 of Hull, suc
cumbed from injuries received Sat
urday in a collision of two ve-
nicles near Ila, Ga. in Madison
county.
Mrs. Virginia Freeman, 20 of
Douglas and Johnny Carver, 31 of
Ambrose, both died in the rear-
end collision of two vehicles Fri
day night near Douglas.
Three persons, including a man
and his wife, drowned within
minutes of each other in the Alap-
ahu River in South Georgia Sun
day p. m
The mother and daughter who
drowned were identified as Mary
Foy and Willie Foy, Negroes. They
drowned Sunday in a flooded pit
near Pembroke.
Mrs. Delia Payne, 41, of Adairs-
ville, died Sunday of electric fence
on her husband’s farm.
Five month old Sam Taylor Jr.
died Sunday when a a fire destroy
ed the mattress on which he was
sleeping at his Macon homo.
Tommy Redfern, 28, was killed
Saturday when his air reserve
training plane crashed near his
family’s home at Pavo near Thom-
asvillel.
