higher this year than in 1960, the
Communicable Disease Center re

Two new cases were reported in
the state during the week ended
Oct. 28, raising the 1961 total to 30
cases. This is 11 more than were
reported through the same date
last year.
The number of new polio cases in
the United States declined slightly
in the week ended Oct. 28.
There were a total of 51 cases,

Macon Paper Loses
Dispute With Oxford
The State Court of Appeals Thurs
day ruled against The Macon Tele
graph Publishing Co. in a corporate
franchise tax dispute with State
Revenue Commissioner Dixon Ox
ford.
The opinion, by Judge Robert
Hall, said the company owed the
state $3,349.50 in tax, penalty and
interest for the years 1953-59. The
decision reversed a ruling of Bibb
Superior Court in favor of the news
papers.
The litigation revolved around
what constitutes net worth for cor
porate tax purposes. The Telegraph
contended it had paid the state in
full.
Under Georgia law, a dog is per
sonal property of value and any
one wrongfully killing a dog is re
sponsible to the dog owner for its
value, unless the killing was justi
fied. A person may have absolute
justification in killing a mad dog
or an uninoculated dog which is
actually attacking a human being
or another valuable animal.
