Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cochran were visitors here last week end. Mrs. J. H. Brewer and jMrs.. Ola Hicks shopped in Macoh' Thurs day. Mrs. Henry Posey, Scott and Julie spent the week end in Al bany. Mrs. Maude Smith of Macon spent several days with relatives here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Don Mason are leav ing soon to make their home in Charleston, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Evans of At lanta spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Don Bonds. Mrs. J H. Neisler returned from Atlanta Wednesday after spending several days with Mrs W. H. What ley. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Cummings are proud parents of twins, boy and girl born Monday at Sams-Whatley hospital. Pvt. Thomas Pierce is with the U. S. Army Hospital in Ft. Polk, La. He is spending a few days with his father. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Byrd spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoke Byrd. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Horton of Ma con were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. James. Mrs. Bobbie Seay of Columbus spent the week end with her mother, Mrs. Emory Seay. Mr. Lonnie Pierce who is a pa tient at the Macon hospital is do ing well as can be expected. Mrs. John Montgomery spent Monday with her father, Mr. Lonnie Pierce at the Macon hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Musslewhite visited Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Whatley in Savannah last week. Mr. H. C. Bond and Rev. J. R. Whiddon attended an Executive Board meeting in Ft. Valley Sun day p. m. Mr. Roy Jones, Sink Marshall, Woodfin Hinton, Julian Whatley and Ed Godard spent Sunday at Rock Eagle. We are glad to have Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Harrison with us. Mr. Harrison has accepted a position with Flint R. E. A. Friends of Charles Nelson are very glad to hear he is doing nice ly at Sams-Whatley hospital after a recent operation. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Swearingen and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Taylor Sr. of Camilla, spent the week end in Gainesville, Fla. Robert Swearingen, Jr. Admitted to Supreme, Appelate Court Bars Mr. Robert Swearingen Jr., and six other law students from Walter George Law School, Mercer Uni versity, were among the 108 law yers who were admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court and the bar of Court of Appeals of Georgia in Atlanta, Monday. Later they at tended a luncheon at the Dinkler- Plaza Hotel. The speaker for the occasion was Hon. G. B. Bell, Judge of the U. S. Court of Appeals. Public Service Telephone Company The Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society of Omaha, Neb., in 1961 processed nearly 37,000 ap plications totaling more than $122- 000,000 in new buiness according to a report by Woodmen President J. R. Sims. This compares with the previous year’s production of $102 million from 28,344 applications. I Woodmen’s net gain of $32,477,000 new insurance in force brought the Society’s total insurance in force .to $100 million. Assets are now | $233 million compared with $228 million at the end of 1960, a gain of $5,000,000. i The new year got off to a good : start for Woodmen of the World 'when official approval was given effective Jan. 1st for the United Order of the Golden Cross of Knox ville, Tenn., to merge with the Woodmen of the World, thereby adding 3,700 new members and $2.7 million in insurance in force. Members now total nearly 415,000. Woodmen is the nation’s financial ly strongest fraternal benefit so ciety. Speaker McCormack Sees Postage Raise Approval Soon Washington, D. C. — Speaker! John McCormack predicted Monday that the House will approve a postage rate increase bill calling for a five cent stamp on first class letters and an eight sent stamp for air mail. i McCormack also said that t'he House Democratic leadership would support the administration stand on the issue. Thus, the bat tle will provide the first test of the effectiveness of the new leader ship team, McCormack, Democratic Leader Carl Albert, Okla., and party Whip Hale Boggs, La. The speaker scheduled for floor action a bill that would raise an additional $550 million in postal revenue, largely thru a one cent increase in first class and air mail rates. Administration forces will try on the floor to raise the bill’s total to $621 million.
