12 Persons Died
In Georgia Accidents
Last Week-end
Macon, Ga. — A two-car headon
crash near Barriesville late Satur
day night snuffed out four lives
and was the worst accident report
ed over the state during the week
end which saw 12 persons die in
Ga. mishaps.
A fifth person was critically in
jured in the Barnesville tragedy.
Dead from the headon crash on
U.S. 341 three miles south of
Barnesville were a father and
daughter, Roy W. Knight, 42, and
Helen Knight, 17, a member of the
Junior Class at Milner High School.
Also dead in the accident were
John H. Sutton, 42, Barnesville, and
Cecil Phelps, formerly of Knoxville,
Tenn., and an employe of the
Smiths Inc., Barnesville.
Sheriff J. C. Waller reported that
Miss Sylvia Sutton, a niece of one
of the victims, was seriously in
jured and is a patient in a Griffin
hospital.
When the wreck occurred, ambu
lances from both Barnesville and
Griffin rushed the victims to
Thomaston an Griffin hospitals but
the four were pronounced dead on
arrival.
In other accidents:
A 62 year old Roopville man died
Sunday when he lost control of his
vehicle and overturned on a high
way in Carroll County.
A pedestrian, J. R. Nowell, 20, of
Co. C., Ft. Campbell, Ky., died Sun
day after he was struck by a ve
hicle on U.S. 84 west of Jakin, Ga.
Other Sunday victims were Henry
Smith, 21, and Ida Mae White, 27,
both Savannah Nef^Re, who died
when their car jumped a ditch at
the end of a deadend street in Sa
vannah.
J. C. Garvin 50, of Ludowici.died
In a headon collision Saturday
south of Glennville.
Luther L. Fowler, 19, of Royston,
died Friday night when he lost con
trol of his automobile and over-'
turned near Bowman.
Also killed Friday night in a
head on collision, was Donald Wil-
kerson of Covington. The accident
occurred in Newton county.
Mrs. Grady Moon, 75, of Comer
died Friday night when hit by an
auto in the city limits of Comer In
Madison county.

Eureka Hi School News
On the evening of Feb. 19th, a
program was presented at the Rey
nolds Elementary school which was
the climax of the PTA first drive
of the year.
The purpose of this drive was a
financial assistance to the lunch
room. The drive was a success.
The program was enjoyed by all.
The program was as follows:
“My Faith Looks Up to Thee,"
was sung by the audience. The
Mistress of Ceremonies led the au
dience in prayer. The PTA creed
was repeated by all; followed by
the PTA song, “I Will be True.” L.
G. Culbreath gave the purpose of
PTA. Words of welcome were giv
en by Gary Peek. We were then
favored with a musical reading.
Reports were read on finance.
A solo was rendered with piano
accompaniment.
There were remarks by the prin
cipal, R. E. Brown, Jr.
Refreshments were served.

Supervising Teachers for the Fort
Valley State College of Practice
Teachers in our school, attended
the Annual Student Teacher con
ference in Atlanta Feb. 21, on At
lanta University's campus. Dr.
Aleyne Haines, professor of Educa
tion at Florida University, gave the
main address.

The PTA of the Eureka High
school had its regular monthly
meting on the night of Feb. 26th.
Theme of the meeting was "Our
Founders”. From this program the
parents were able to gain much in
formation concerning the beginning
of the PTA and its purpose.
The parents were encouraged to
keep their children in school every
day possible for the remainder of
this school term.
Plans were made for the district
meeting in Lumpkin. The delegates
are Beatrice McCrary and Melaine
Gray

any prior proper liens appearing of
