Mr. R. L. Swearingen, Sr., will
leave Sunday for Kansas City, Mo.
to attend a business meeting of the
National Hereford Association.
Mr. Clinton Sams, a student of
Gordon Military Institute in
Marnesville, spent the week end
with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. F. H.
Sams.
Mr. L. B. Strickland, prominent
Taylor county citizen, and member
of the Perry High School faculty,
will be one of eight Houston county
school teachers to be honored by
the Houston Board of Education at
banquet in Perry Monday evening.
Mr. Strickland and seven other
teachers in the Houston county
school system will retire after the
present school year. He has served
as a school teacher for 38 years.
Six years of this time have been
spent as member of the Perry school
faculty.
Mr. Strickland is also owner and
operator of the Flint River Worm
farm near Reynolds.

The Gordon-Carson Chapter UDC
met March 30th at the home of
Mrs. F. M. Carson, with Mrs. J. R.
Carson as joint hostess. There were
three visitors present: Mrs. Will
Ricks, Mrs. Paul Hodges and Mrs.
Dugger, mother of Mrs. P. E. Mc
Daniel. Mrs. S. J. Tankersley, presi
dent of the Chapter, appointed
these committee to assist with the
tea which is to follow the observ
ance of Memorial Day on April 26:
Tea table, Hrs. R. L. Swearingen
and Mrs. Tankersley; relics, Mrs. F.
M. Carson and Mrs. P. E. McDaniel;
refreshments, Mrs. H. C. Bond, Mrs.
H. G. Windham and Mrs. E. F. Seay.
Crosses of Military’ Service are
being secured for presentation to
Miss Elizabeth Jones and Mrs. C.
A. Heard, formerly Miss Bessie
Causey, both of whom served the
armed forces as nurses in World
War II.
After singing Dixie by the Chap
ter, accompanied by Mrs. E. P. f
Hodges, a most interesting talk on
the Women of the Confederacy was
given by Mrs. C. G. Elder.
Mrs. Hodges played several piano
selections, while refreshments were
being served by the hostesses, as
sisted by Mrs. Will Ricks.
Mr. and Mrs. James Pyron and
son, Ronald, and Mrs. Jewell
Sweeney and son, Michael of At
lanta, were week end guests of
Mrs. David Posey.
Mr. Robert Swearingen and three
other Mercer University students
are attending a Law Review Con
vention at William & Mary College
in Williamsburg, Va.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Mullins of
Macon, and Mrs. Ruby Dahl and
children of Warner Robins were
spend-the-day guests of Misses
Winnie and Laurice Aultman, Sun
day.
Mesdames F. M. Carson, Frankie
Lewis, Edgar Whatley and W. T.
Ricks shopped in Macon Thursday.

with her daughter, Mrs. Walter

daughter, Teresa Olivia on March
29th, Mrs. Bernice Hill, Mrs. Oliv
er’s mother is spending some time
with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Grady Elder spent
the week end in Baxley with Mrs.
Elder’s mother, Mrs. H. C. Mc
Cracken. They were accompanied
home by Mrs. S. R. Mann of McRae
for a few days visit.

The numerous friends of Stevie
Aultman are delighted that he is
at home after being a patient at the
Macon hospital for several days.
Although he will be confined to his
home for about two weeks, Stevie
is reported to be doing nicely.
