Kiwanis Club Meet

Col. Mike Hendricks, State Direc
tor of Selective Service, was intro
duced by C. E. Marshall as guest
speaker at the luncheon meeting of
Kiwanis Club, Friday. The program
was planned in observation of
Armed Forces Day.
Col. Hendricks spoke on the im
portance of training the youngsters
to think for themselves, to teach
respect for parents, teachers and
others, to gain respect for the
country. He stressed that defense
responsibility lies with the homes,
churches and clubs as well as the
schools in training the youth so
that America wil remain Ameri
can.
Special recognition was given
two members of the Selective Serv
ice Board of this county. Thurmon
Whatley, Chairman, and H. H. Ri
ley, Field Agent, received certifi
cates for 20 years of service on the
board.
Guests for the day, introduced

High School Tuesday to survey the
laboratory facilities.
He will draw up specifications for
the improvement of the laboratory
so that the school will have a fully
equipped laboratory for science
students in the Fall.

day evening. The meeting was
called to order by the president,
