GREAT PHILANTHROPIST.
That Mr. Andrew Carnegie is a
genuine philanthropist, we have no
reason to doubt, and his gifts for
public libraries are very generous
and liberal.
But the talk about Mr. Carnegie
hoping or expecting to die poor, is
only talk, and can have no founda

It would be a very remarkable
and even extraordinary thing
him to give away all his money and
become a poor man in his old age.
But he is not going to do
thing of that sort.
There seems to be no doubt that
he holds bonds of the great United

amount of $280,000,000, besides
large amount of other
property. These bonds draw 5

The Nashville. Chattanooga & St Louis Kail

support, the eo-opertion and the assistance of
the people of every county through which its
lines pass. The management, earnestly requests
that all persons who have farms for sale or
lease, those who have timbered lands, water
powers or mineral lands for sale, will send a
brief description oi the same to the railroad
agent nearest them, giving the prices and the
terms of sale. The prices must correspond wilh
