Beef cattle are all the rage now. Quite
a number of droves liave passed tbrongh
here, recently, en route for Atlanta—that
thriving and progressing city—the will-be
permanent Capital of Georgia, and ought
to be. Don’t you think so?
The 41st Senatorial District will give for
Atlanta, as the permanent Capital at least
fifteen hundred majority—yea, two thou
sand. They will also ratify the Constitu
tion, god vote for the new homestead.
Mr. M. J. Hears is making some sub
stantial improvements on his dwelling, and
Col. Thos. F. Greer, is going to put anew
sill under his, right away. Who Bays Elli

Prof. Hutsell’s school is increasing al
most dally. Those who have sons and
daughters to educate will do well to send
here. Board is cheap, and the surrounds

Court meets at Jasper next week. It

Comptroller General, is again going to sell
the wild lands of the State on which taxes
have not been paid. The number of these

John Hunnicutt, Esq., has moved into
his new dwelling. It is not yet finished
but withal looks neat. Poindexter and
Hill know how to make a dwelling look
neat and handsome. Will not some of
our neighbors follow suit, and, at least,
■top a few cracks, or put a few plank on
the front fence? Anything for internal
improvement, if its only to clean out the
backyard.
Our “beautiful singer,” has learned to
make a patent wagon wheel, end now by
Long and rapid strides, is striving to reach
the Noblest and most charming place, that
energy and untiring effort guarantees to
the ambitious soul. We say, “press for
the mark of the prize of your high calling.”
Its a Noble trait of character; and remem
ber that the battle is not always to the
strong, nor the race to the swift, but the
promise is to him who finally overcomes.

like a stray sheep, and the rain ceases to

Texas * Item. —Yesterday a darkey
came into Gale & Bright’s drug store,
and’told Mr. B. that while he was at
the colored camp meeting near town,
the devil appeared in their midst with
seven beads, and a crown on each head.
The meeting broke np in a panic, the

that Isaac Cantrell, deceased, late of add
county, died intestate, leaving a considera
ble estate, both real and personal, and that
it will be necessary in securing the rights
of creditors and heirs at law, to administer
upon the same; and, whereas, Isaac Bur
leson makes application to' be appointed
administrator of the estate of the said de
ceased. This is, therefore, to cite all per-,
sons concerned—the next of kin and cred
itors—to show cause, if any they can, at
the next Term of this court, why letters
of administration should not be granted the
applicant, on said estate, in conformity to
law.

Pursuant to an order from the Court of,
Ordinaiy of said county, I will sell before,
the Court House door, in the town of Elli
jay, in said county, on the first Tuesday
in November next, between the usual
hours of sale, of the realty of John Leach,
deceased, late of said county, the follow
ing property, viz.: Lots of land nos. 231,
238, 265 and 301, in the 26th district, and
2d section of said county; also three (8)
acres, more or less, of lot No. 314, lying
on the south side of said lot and boniled
by Flat Creek on the north, in the 25th
district and 2d section of said county; also
lot of land No. 57, in tlic 24th district and
2d section of said county; also lot of land
No. 216, in the 11th district and second
section of said county. All of said whole
lots containing one hundred and sixty
acres, more or less. Raid lands being sold
to pay the debts of the said deceased and
for the purposes of distribution, and will
be sold at public outcry and to the highest
bidder, 'lerms made known on day of
