Jasper Poindexter last week gave us
'a fine specimen of an grown by

An infant child of Maj. G. 11. Rar
dell died last Saturday and was interred
on the following day. On Tuesday
following an infant of Dr. J. R. John
son died and was buried on the next
day. On the same day a daughter of
Mrs. Pinson was buritd in the same
cemetery. The Angel of Death has
spread his wings over three homes and
shrouded them in gloom, almost in a
day. May the living remember that
the brittle thread of life lasts but a day.

Court has been in session during the
past week, and with an average good
Attendance. Judge Le&tßr cieliVered a
very practical charge; in which he
dwelt strongly on the ‘condition of the
public roods, bridges, buildihg--, elc.,
but when hfi touched tipon tlie various
penal laws required to be given in
charge to thb grand jury he became el
oquent,and fairly lifted the hind sights
off of the boy who game, sell whisky
or carry pistols.
The moral character of Judge Les
ter, with his detentiin'ed will, to sup
press crime and nip it in the bud, will
have a very salutary effect dpoh the
morals of this cblihtry.
From what we can gather the grand
■jury have done Valuable work on the
criminal side < {“'the docket; and have
made also very thorough and sifting in
vestigations into every question sub
mitted to thepi. Their general pre
sentments will appear next week:

The celebrated cow case, Cody, plain
tiff, and Holt and Whitaker, defend
ants, was tried and decided in favor of
defendants.
