day, will be made a standard
gauge, and be exteuded to Alui

Take a map and put a straight
edge on Marietta, up the line ol
this road through Murphy, end
then through Knoxville, and you
have the shortest route by thirty

and central Pennsyl
vania. Then extend this road
from Marietta to A lanla and con
nect it with the Ueorgia Midland,
where it will be met at Columbus
by a road, at no distant day, run
ning to Baiubridge and Florida
and the gull, and you have one if
the beat hues in the United States.
But suppose this road stops at
Murphy and connects with the
road east and west there. On its
line it runs through sections a
boundiag in minerals of almost
every kind—gold, inexhauatable
to Is of iron or*-, mountains ol
marble of rich varieties, slat -, mi
ca, paint- rack, talc, aibestos, cop
per, mangauese, plumbago, and
lver, grand forests of valuable
timber and fine water power, easy
of control, and, in many places,
almost natural dams ready to
utilize in the manufaciure ot va
