Attention to Farm Horses.
We are all familiar with the care that
is given to trotting horse* and even coach
hor-es. And what ia the object of thia
care? With the coarh horse, perhaps,
the purpose ia to add to the appearance.
That i, not the purpose, however, with
the trotting horses. What ia it then?
Why all this nibbing and blanketing and
gentle exercise while cooling off? It
cost, a great deal of money to give auch
attention, and therefore it mast be pre
sumed that the object ia an important
one The purpose i, the preservation of
health and perfect condition. What
would be the result if the trotting hone
were treated as many of our farm hones
are treated? Some of them are strangers
even to the curry-comb. They are carry
ing all the dirt that accnmulatc* on them
from day to day, except that they rub or
shake some of it off. They jeome Into
the stable wet with perspiration and are
left in that condition. Frequently they
arc watered while hot and fed while hot.
They are stuffed with hay, and put to
hard work while gorged with bulky
food. Is it not a profound wonder that
torses which are thu* neglected do not
oreak down much sooner than they do?
Of course the man who thus neglects hie
horses pleads the hurry of the season,
and there is no objection, except upon
humane grounds, to treating hia horse
as he may like. But does it pay? Is it
profitable to wear out two dollars worth
of horse to do one dollars’ worth of work?
Does it pay to waste horsellesh in order
to save in some other direction? We do
not believe that there is any profit in that
tort of management. If a team is worn
out in one half the time it ought to he
there is a very reckless waste of money.
It is not necessary to give the farm
horse a* much attention as the trotter re
ceives. But it ought to be thought noc
essary to give the animal good attention
and to insure its comfort to the utmost
practical limit. There arc millions of
dollars sacrificed by reckless care of
horses. I'cople do not seem to appre
ciate this vast loss. Horses are in tired
and killed as if a horse cost nothing.
I.ct us be careful of this very valuable
property.

Tho aid of sheep in keeping up fer

The mouths and breasts of horses are
especially exposed when driven in frosty

Warmth to milch cows is ns essential
as good fooling, and tepid water will
greatly aid digestion and invigorate the
cows in severe weather.
A Southern planter says: “If farmers

We would not undertake to rahe
chickens or to keep poultry through tho

Hoots arc valuable aids to digestion
when given in connection with grain
food, but when fed exclusively or given
lavishly they linve a too laxative effect,
which quickly runs down the sheep.
The English winter their sheep mainly
on turnips. '1 he flocks, turned into the
tields, attack and harvest the turnips,
using all ol tho roots which aro eatable,
and leaving the peeling in the ground.
An excellent method of utilizing the
hay seed nnd dust is to place it where
the hens can scratch it over. They will
find quite nu amount of valuable mate
rial which would bo useless for any other
purpose.

Some of the best paying farms in the
United States consist of almost pure
white sand, but they are devoted to
fruits and poultry, thus economising
labor and space. The success of a farmer
does not depend ao much upou the qual

Goldin Medical Discovert cures Consumption (which is Scrofula of the Lungs), by its wonderful blood-purifying, invigora

It rapidly builds up the system, and increases the flesh and weight ot those reduced below the usual standard of health by
“wasting diseases.”
Consumption. —Mrs. Edward Newton, of BarroicmUh,
Ont., writes: “ You will ever be praised by me for the remarka
ble cure in my cose. I was so reduced that my friends had all
giren me up, and 1 had also been given up by two doctors. I then
went to the best doctor in these parts. He told me that medicine
was oniy a punishment in my case, and would not undertake to
treat me. He said I might try Cod liver oil if I
*iupo lie as that was the only thing that could possi-
Uiyt.il UP bly have any curative power over consumption so
_ far advanced. I tried the Cod liver oil as a last
Tfl UIF treatment, but I was so weak I could not keep it
on my stomach. My husband, not feeling satisfied
to give me up yet, though he had bought for me
everything he saw advertised for my complaint, procured a quan
tity of your * Golden Medical Discovery.’ I took only four bottles,
and, to the surprise of everybody, am to-day doing my own work,
and am entirely free from that terrible cough which barrassed me
night and day. I have been afflicted with rheumatism for a number
of yean, ana now feel ao much better that I believe, with a con
tinuation of your‘Golden Medical Discovery,’ I will be restored
to perfect health. I would say to thorn who are falling a prey to
that terrible disease consumption, do not do as I did, take every
thing etae first; but take the ’Golden Medical Discovery' in tne
early stages of the dla-aae, and thereby save a great deal of suf
fering and be restored to health at once. Any person who I*
