The Columbus paper* published its
suspension, on information received
from Mr. Hines Dozier, a lawyer in
tin* place, who informs us that the
reporter* misunderstood hiut. Mr.
Dottier states that it was not In* in
tention to leave the impression th .i
there wa* a mortgage held by Mr.

posed a claim, and regret* that it
should be *o construed. Mr. lloully

their fanning operations was to make
sure of pwtsion* -enough torki them.
They followod tlii* plan, making
money year after year until they
grew rich. They were enabled to
build fiuo houaos, drive tine horse*
and mule*, and Inure all the comfort*
uud luxuries, and this with cotton
selling ill from four to six cents per
pound and often hauling it by wagon
to .Macon, a distance of more than
one hundred miles. They always
had corn, wheat, oats, etc., for man
and beast, and raised tbiar liorscs,
mules, hogs ami everything necessa
ry for plantation use at Imuc.
Then the people wire independent,
money was ea*v, securities good and
everything prosperous. Now things
are very different. Tlte farmers do-
upon other sections of the coun
try for everything they sc, mik
ing cotton lo buy corn, meat, mules,

run a plantation. A lew dilapidated

half-starved mules and hard-pressed
fanners arc tho results. It is true
the lands arc not us good now a*
they were then, but it is the fault of
tuba system if agriculture! that it is
cot so. They cm. bo brought hack
