The Cash System.—As we have to pay tne

Good Advice.
Act Upon it at Once.
Messrs. Kennedy & Cos. are daily
in receipt of applications from all
parts of the country for agencies for
their Great Remedy, Seven Seals or
Golden Wonder. To our readers
our advice is, and should be acted
upon at once, Write to them at Pitts
burgh, Pa.—send two dollars and fif
ty cents for sample dozen of the
Great Remedy, and you will know
precisely how to go to work. They
will send full instructions bow to
conduct the business, so very plain
that any man of ordinary intelligence
can begin work successfully after
reading them. Their offer to agents
is very liberal, and as the firm is well
know as one who perform all their
promises the present opportunity for
engaging in light and respectable bu
siness should be embraced.
Poetry and Prose of Spring.
The glories of spiing time has ever
been a favorite theme among the
poets. They glow with lapture
when describing how “Spring unlocks
the flowers to paint the laughing
soil,’’ but forget that “Death rides
on every passing bleeze, and lurks in
every flower.” Yes, the vernal sea
son however bright and benusiful it
may seem is fraught will, perils to
the human race. In our climate it
is the most dangerous to health of
ft' y portion of the year. The sud
den changes of the weather produce
Colds, Coughs, Catarrh, Bronchitis,
Rheumatic,i all j Neuralgia, while
the poisonous exhalations arising from
the earth, induce deadly fevers. At
this perilous season (} ie greatest care
should be exercised, arid the Seven
Seals or Coleen Wonder, that
speedy, certain and effectual cure for
all ailments brought on I y variable
weather, or by inhaling miasmatic
vapors, should be kept where it can
he brought quickly into icqu-iuot,.

DISASTROUS FIRE.
Loms About Forty Thousand Dol
lars.
Work of mi Incondiuy.
SI YEN STORES CONSUMED ON BROAD
STKKKT—OUT OF WATER,
Yeslerdny morning about 2 o'clock
Captain Moore and officer Roper
gave the alarm of fire, as they saw a
blaze oonii g out of the roof of the
store known as the “Dollar Store,”
an 1 occupied by A. Bach. The tire
then was under full headway inside
the building. It was just at that hour
of the night when everybody had
retired and were sleeping soundly—
so it was someli'ino before the fire
men responded to the call. When
the fire companies arrived the store
of Mr. Bach w as in full bluzj all over.
The flames quickly spread to the
store ofMessrs. J. J. & \V. K. Wood,
grocers, and in a lit tie while these
two stores and the one above Bach’s,
occupied by Messrs. Wells & Curtis
as a shoe store, were consumed. The
firemen worked with a dogged deter
mination, Iml their offer s were fruit
less in the faoc of the devouring ele
ment,
AN(.THICK ALARM
The fire had about died out, and
the weary firemen were preparing to
leave with their engines, when it was
discovered that lie building north ot
Wehs Curtis was on fire. This
Hie caught from the other, and would
have been put out very easily but for
tlie fact that the supply of water had
been exhausted, and come delay was
oecosioned, giving the fire pretty
headway.
No. 5 exhaused four cisterns, and
was engaged on the tif b when the
flames were arrested. Captain Hill,
superintendent of the Eagle Factory,
tftrmd on the water from the facto
ry, supplying one steamer, and at one
time both of the steamers. About
daylight the fire was arrested.
ORIGIN OF THE FIRE,
No one can definitely account for
the tire, as there was no probable
reason for a fire to be kindled in the
stores at this season of the year. All
mho weie present are sati-fied the
fire was ihowmk of an incendiary,
partieu’a'ly as in a few moments the
entire house was in a blaze. There
is no one against whom to lodge a
suspicion, and yet it is evidcut the
building was tired by some party or
parties. Mr. Bach, who occupies the
store and sleeps iu there, went into
the store about half past one, aud in
half hour the store was iu finues.
Mr. Bach and his cb rk escaped in
their undvfrdrtiss io ashed, anti from
there climbed down a plank placed
against i:.
A one-legged man who was near
the locality, says he heard some par
ties at that place a lew jiigliu igo
talking. He only heard the words,
“ Finnic —keroseuoc—fire—insurance
—and tlie balance lie says was spoken
In German.
The insurance agents have some
suspicions, but they are very reticent
on the subject, though they say they
will fathom the matter. — Columbus

From our Special Correspondent.]
FROM EAST TENNESSEE.
Spring Rale Stock Farm.
Ed. Journal: This excellent farm
is located in Monroe county, East
Tennessee, and is the properly of
Col. Jno. B. Gorman, of Talbot coun
ty, Ga., and Mr. J. S. Thomason, of
this State. It is most admirably
adapted to the purpose for which it
is now used. The location cannot
be surpassed; the supply of good
running water is more than sufficient
for all demands that may bo made
upon it; large springs burst from the
baio of every bill.
The land is gently rolling and very
productive, abounding in extensive
meadows —a sine qua non to a stock
farm. The cat tle at e of the celebrated
shorthorn breed.and have been inipor
ted at, great cost. Roan is rpagnifieent
specimen, and is an exact copy of a
specimen seen in a late number of
of the Agriculturalist. The flock of
sheep and lambs number about sev
enty ; some of them are of the South
down and Cots wold varieties, and
are very line, will this season shear
from six to twelve pounds of wool
each—worth about forty cents per
pound.
The Berkshire hogs attracted a
good deal of attention. I will not
say how much the pigs—six weeks
old—will weigh, for I know your cot
ton men could’nt “see it,” A pair
has been shipped to Cataula, and
will speak for themselves, and
every reader of the Journal, espe
cially those that, hnve fine stock,
should go to see them and “do like
wise.’’ These hogs are easily kept
can he fattened at any age, and are
especially adapted to the wants of
the South.
Col. Gorman intends to make this
farm a success; he will haye nothing
but the first breeds.
The prices he pays for some of his
stock would surprise your “cheap
men; and in addition to all this, the
Colonel himselt is a thorough bred
gentleman, every word he utters cau
be relied upon as the truth. More
than this can be said of no one ; less
would not give a true canception of
the man. His associate, Mr. J. S.
Thomason, is too well known to your
leaders to need any commendations
from your
Correspondent.
