Good Farming Pngs.
Tho town farmer is often a sub
ject of ridicule with editors of ag
ricultuiaj journals, and when ho
divides lus time between his law
books, lus merchandise or his wotk
bench and his farm, he is n;>t to bo
a fit subject for ridicule. But we
have found tunny small farms rear
the niUiior towns Conducted in a
manner calculated to elicit our
highest id in i ration.
Within tho corporate limits of
the town of Talbotton is a farm ot
this character. Indeed there are
several, hot our attention has been
drawmparticularly to ono of these,
which has attracted by iis beauty
mid neatness the admiration of ev
ery one wlio has seen that town.
Everything about the place indicates
the exoe’lent taste and fine ability
of the proprietor. The place shows
conclusivey, in its general appear
twice, that tanning is Ins chosen
profession; and that bo has not cho
sen it bemuse of a conviction of his
inability io succeed at anything
else.
The fnru last year produced a
crop of cetton, oats and corn worth
o!,000. I'ho labor was done by
two malts. The net profits will
appear very large, it in addition to
the aboveproducts we consider tlio
valuo of ethers produced only for
home consumption, consisting of
peasfc, poutoes, fodder, bay, milk,
butter, eg '8, chickens, fruits, vege
tables, &c Tins farm is not cx
ceptiouailj rich, but in the course
of time, uide r its present manage
ment it wil be. Its fertility is im
proved eadi succeeding year. The
land is diuhed and cultivated so as
to preventwashing, and ;the prod
ucts of tin farm—excepting cotton
—are used upon the farm. Under
this kind <f management any farm
will becone fertile.
Upon one aero of tins farm, wo
are the profits lor tho

early of oats, was grazed f*.
a week and planted m coiion. It
now *is a beautiful stand ot vol
unteer oats growing on it, which
furnish excellent winter pasturage
for the calves and poultry. lho
crop of oats on tho patch measured
140 bushels, and 1500 pounds of
Seed t o'ton were gathered from the
same ground.
To live iu the same style which
this gentleman does, if everything
which liis family consumes had to
be purchased, would require ao in
come if two or three thousand
dollars annually. Ilis house is a
model of neatness without and is
furnished handsomely within. On
the Saibath he is invited to worship
by the voices of nearly halt a doz
en chtroh bells. Ilis children are
withineasy access of fine schools,
his wib is surrounded by the finest
and pTest society in the world, and
the dafy mails keep him informed
of too jrogress of the busy outside
world. At home be is noted for
his pritcely hospitality. Abroad he
is tukea lor the successful banker.
The l)rew temperance movement
iu Savsnnab is meeting with much
success. An average of more than
a hundred persons bign the pledge
daily. It is hoped that Mr. Drew
will he induced to visit all of our
Georgitt cities.
