The following original letter was handed to us

encomiums, mint lie a good one:
Galvxston, Texas, April 26, 1856.
l)a. 0. O. Woodman, New Orleans;
My Pear Sir:—In justice to you nnd a duly
1 owe to a jUlftnng, and, 1 may aay, a world ot
coughing people, 1 state what your invaluable
Cough Remedy—your CHERRY EXPEC
TORANT—has done for me, when nil other
remedies have failed to give any relief. In the
fall of 1847, living in St. Louis, where I have
resided most of the time for the last sixteen
years, I took a severe cold, which settled on my
lungs, and was confined to my bed, and dosed
and b/istered by doctors for several weeks, hut |
finally got on my legs again, but not cured ol
my hard coughing, and rattling and tickling iu
my throat, which continued Ii sguontly fot
more than six months, always tile vvoortin the
winter. My friends insisted I tpul coughed
enough to kill a dozen common man, and that
I must lie in the last stage of consumption. I
made up my mind that i must cough my life
away. I left St. I.ouia iu Deo.ntobor Iasi, to
travel and spend the wintoc in the South.—
WhenJI called at your store in V ioksburg, you
will recollect, I was coughing so hard I could
not make tny business known. You said you
would cure my cough. As you gave me a but
tle of your CHERRY EXPECTORANT, I
thought I would not slight you and your medi
cine so much as not to try it; and in thankful
ness shall I ever remember the day 1 did so. In
hut a few days, it began to allay and diminish
my cough and tickling in my throat, and be
fore I had used more than three fourths of the
contents of that bottle, I was entirely cured, and
for weeks I did not oven raise a cough, tliougl
expesed day and night, in all weathers, in tra
veling. However, in March, while traveling iu
North Carolina, I took a severe cold, and my
coughing commenced again, and also the tick
ling in my throat, at intervale; aud before my
arriving in New Orleans, on tho 1UL inal., on
some night, my coughtng wo-iiii commence
and continue for an hour or two. I won pro
cured another bottle from you, aud in less than
two days I was entirely relieved again. I am
now determined to always keep a bottle on
hand, and in the commencing of a cough, a ve
ry few small doses will relieve it entirely. I
am now fully satisfied it is the BEST COUGH
REMEDY now known to the world; ami it is a
duty you owe to the coughing nnd alllicted
part of the human family, to put «> valuable a
remedy within tho reach of all. Its praises will
soon he upon the tonguesof ten* of thousands ol
joyful and coughless, happy souls. So great a
remedy as your Expectorant should be brought
before the public.
I am, dear sir, respectfully your*,
