Ten o’clock came, and she fervently

gently on his couch and composed his
frail form with as much care as if he

Hastily throwing on a hood and
•bawl, she left the house to seek as
sistance.
She went to a friend of Mr. Parke?,
who kindly offered his services, while
he sent a good, trusty woman to assist
Mrs. Parkes. A full hour passed be
fore the returned to her desolate home,
where she had left her dead and living
together.
Mr. Paikes had not yet returned,
but waa at that moment reposing at a
Tillage inn some fifteen miles from his
home, where he had gone the night
before with a large and boisterous
company of males and females, who
bad passed the hours in dancing and
gay hilarity.

met an acquaintance upon returning to
the city, who informed him of the death

beartlessness appeared to him; he hast

Elbert S. Montgomery, of Mt. Olivet,
Ky., who last week received here, thro’
the first National Bank $15,000, as the
holder of one-fifth of ticket No. 8(5,800,
which drew the capital prize in the
April drawing of the Louisiana State
Lottery, costing him 'bnt one dollar.
He is at home pursuing the even tenor
of his way as a farmer, and shows a
disposition to use wisely the money
dame fortune has bestowed upon him.
When the public was inclined to doubt
1 he would receive the money, he was
offered, by responsible parties, tbe
amount called for, less two per cent,
but knowing the integrity of the Lou
isiana State Lottery management, he
declined the offer, and has received
$15,000 in fall. It war the first lot
tery ticket he ever held in bis life, and
ho paid for it tbe sum of one dollar.—
