A New Idea.—The Methodists of
Bay,View, Cecil county, Md., have
determined to build a now church, but
being scrupulous as to the manner the
ii.oncy is to be raised for the purpose,
the building committee has adopted
the following: “ Resolved, that in
building this church, wc make use of
no means which have the least resemb
lance of gambling or chance work of
any kind whatever."
A Topeka clothes line thief wa very

Mr. E. F. King, a portrait-painter of
some reputation living at Atlanta, took

A Macon man, assisted by Watson, of
the Telegraph, is engaged in civilizing a
pair of opossums. Thu most fervent

Recently there came through the Sa
vannah city post office a registered letter
from some foreign country, containing
£20,000 worth of diamonds. The gentle
man to whom the letter was addressed
voluntarily took it to the Custom House
and paid the legal duties upon it.
A book-keeper of M. P. Stoval, of Au
gusta, checked out $4,000 from the bank,
went home, took a nap, and uftenvards
found that he had lost over three-fourths
of the money through a hole in his 'coat

the following property, to-wit: A certain Tract
or parcel of land, situate, lying and being in
county, on the waters of North Oconee River, con
taining Two Hundred and Fifty Acres, more or
less, adjoining the lands of Wilkins, Hayne and
Jackson, and the place whore W. M. Gathright
now lives. Said Tract of Land is known as the
John C. Itathright place, and contains thirty or
forty acres River Bottom, ten or twelve acres in
cultivation, sixty or seventy acres upland in culti
vation and In old fields, balance in woods. There
arc two small cabins on the place.
Said tract of Land levied on as the property of
YV. M. Gathright, to satisfy five executions issued
from the Superior Court of said county, against
the said IV. M. Gutliright. one in favor of H. J.
David, one in favor of Wilkins Haynic, dne ir
favor of W. J. Haynic, one in favor of M. T. Wil
hite, and one in favor of M.T. Wilhite for costs
for the officers of Court.
