We learn that in addition to the ten !
stamp mill, on 1031, the parties who
recently purchased this and 10o3, have
n very fine mill now being built in
Chicago, with all the modern improve
ments, designed for the latter let,
which will be erected very shortly.
Weaver & Davis’ Mill, on Pigeon
Roo.-t, is running steadily, with the
most satisfactory results.
We are pleased to learn that Col.
A. II. Moore's mill, on Battle Branch,
is very nearly completed, and in ihe
course of a few days will beat work.
During the past week, we have had
several patties looking around, among
whom was a practical California hy
draulic miner, of seventeen years’ expe*
rience, now conducting one of the
large-t operations of the character in
California. After a pretty thorough
examination of this section and its fa
cilities for hydraulic mining, he freely
expressed his opinion that with the ad
vantage's which the completion of the
Hand Gold Mining Company’s aque
duct will afford, both in regard to the ex
extent and rich, there was nothing that
he has seen in California to equal it;
ami in view of the important fact that
here hydraulics are applicable to vein
as well as placer mining, and the won
derful extent of gold-bearing quart/,
withi : t ie reach of the water, the suc
cess -lis enterprise was unquestion
able.
We have always held this opinion
ourselves, and upheld iu it by so hi^h
authority ns the gentleman above allu
ded to, increases our confidence.—

COUNTY COURT.
Wc have carefully examined the Books a.nl
cotyuu of thq Judve of this Court, and cuimot conr-
mend iu too bi*li terms the manner in w
business of thin Court i* conducted, and the |er-
tcctioii which has been attained in keeping tho
recurd* of its proceedings.
RFCEIVKR AND COLLECTOR.
The Books of these Officers have been cxaiuirud.
We find nothing to censure, but much to e«.iu~
mend. It appears that there arc taxeiv still uu*t»t-
tied, amounting lo ^5,335.« G, which u o think should
be c«*llected soon.
ORDINARY.
Th* Hooks and Papers of tliis Office nrc kept i:t a
manner embracing remarkable convenience and
neatness.
MAGISTRATES.
The Dockets of these Officers, that have been ex
hibited to us. arc generally inij*erfectly kept. J„>
F. o'Kelly, J. P.. i* an exception, who seems like
ly soon to rob the County Judge and Ordinary of
their laurel*.
RECOMMENDATIONS.
Wc recommend the Ordiuary to assess fur the
present ye-’r. County Tuxes fljr the various pur
poses specified in Section 514 of the New Code of
Georgia, as, in his judguient may be necessary to
meet these purposes, and to pay a reduction of
twenty per cent, ou- the debt of ihe County, such
levy uot to exceed two hundred percent.ua the
atafe Tax.
We recommend that the Judge of ihe County
Court, in conjunction with the following inunctf
Board of Freeholders—Marccllus Mui.icv, Rufus
L. MojsS Leon U* CtiarUmnier and John W. Nich-
, < Isbn- U* authurued to issue the Bond* of the
Omnty to the amoui.t of from twenty to ih?rty
thoic^aml dollars, us in their judgment m y be
neoosuafy, one^fourth part of which shall bo due
in five years, one-fourth in ten years, onc-lourth j
in fifteen years, ami the remaining fourth part in t
twenty yeais, for the purpose of builJiugu Court :
Honse and Jail, in compliance with an act of the |
legislature, approved 28th February, 1874.
We find that tae Bunded Debt of tue County is .
now^ in n<ui.d numbers, sixteen tiiousutid dollars. |
Oe<»nee County will pay her proportion of this,
which will reduce the debt of this County to tw elve |
or thirteen thousand dollar*. We recommend that, j
in tiie future, when any of the Bonds of the Conn- j
tr are paid, tiie ('ounti Judge set* to it, that the t
Bombs Coupons and Registry are promptly and J
projierly cancelled.
The salary of the County Julgc is fixed al one j
