[ A member of the staff of the lamented
| Major General Oieburne, writing from Co
lumbia, Term., to a friend in this city, gives
the following account of his burial;
Mobile Register.
1 had his remains brought to this place
and buried at Ashwood, sis miles distant,
the private graveyard of the Polk family,
I met with great kindness from the people
here in the performance of my duty. His
f coffin was strewn with flowers by the ladies,
; and the following beautiful line&, written by
{ Miss H., were sealed upon it:
“ Fare thee well, departed chieftain 1 .
Klin’s land sends forth a wail,
And oh., my country sad laments thee*,
Passed too soon through death's dark vsia .
Blow ye brecr.es softly on him.
Fan his brow with gentle breath,
Disturb ye not his peaceful sluwbei,
Clebutne sleeps of death 1 *
Rest thee, Cleburne 1 tears of sadness
Fiow from hearts thpu’st nobly won j
Memory ne’er will cease to cherish
Deed’s of glory thou hast done I ”

[ A model of a new Confederate flag is now
; before Congress at Richmond. The present
one is a failure. The now one, instead of
an entire white held, has a red bar filling
one half of the field.; arid when hanging a
gainst the staff, does not present the pale
** flag of truce ” appearance that the old on©
does, The Dispatch understands that tbs
design is approved by General Lee as adding
to the distinctness of our present flag, but is
referred by him to naval gentlemen, as be
ing better judges of such matters. Commo
dore Forrest, Captain-S. S. Lee, and other
officers of the navy, approve the new design,,
and it was renorted oir favorably on the Ifittr
iust. by the Senate Commjttc-e on Naval Af
fairs, who recommend its adoption.. Th*
new design for the flag is by Major A . L.
Roggere, Confederates States Artillery.
