large gathering in Atlanta, succeeding Thos. W. Hardwick. Gover
nor Walker was given an ovation by admiring friends.

An interesting visitor at the Bap
tist church next Sunday morning
will be Miss Ida V. Rhoad, State
Field Worker for the W. B. M. U.
Miss Rhoad, who is to teach the W. j
M. U. Manual at the Buiffton En
campment, will teach the Sunday
School Besson to the ladies’ class.
The home of Mr. S. L. Bush, .Ir.,
on River street, was destroyed by
fire about 12: BO Tuesday morning,
together with most of its contents.
The origin of the fire is not known.
Mr. Bush’s loss was a severe one,
though he carried partial insurance,
we understand.
Miss Pastoria Outlaw and Mr.
Grady Coker, of Hartford, Ala., were
united in marriage Sunday afternoon
in Blakely by a local magistrate. Sev
eral young friends came over with
the happy couple on their Gretna
Green mission.
Mr. Thomas H. Underwood, who
has been attending a school of elec
trical engineering at Milwaukee,
Wis., the past two years, spent Mon
day and Monday night in Blakely
with the home folks. He was en
route to Lake City, Fla., to accept
a position during the summer months j
with Mr. .1. B. Hobbs, who is city-j
manager of Lake City. I
Ordinary Lane held his regular
monthly term of court Monday.
Among the business transacted was
probating the will of the late Mrs.
M. EL Merritt, of .lakin, and the
will of Rev. W. O. Crumbley, of
Damascus. Mr. D. G. Merritt was
tiie sole heir and executor of the ,
former, and Rev. H. L. Crumbley,)
of Cuthbert, qualified as executor I
of the latter, who was his brother.
Miss Marguerite Alexander, accom
panied by Messrs. Lynwood Alexan
der and Victor Balkcom, went over
to Albany Wednesday to meet Miss
Nell Bernal, of Omaha, Ga., a cltss

McElroy and Marie Harding, of Co
lumbus, Ga., are expected later, when
they all will go down to Panama
City to join Mesdames Henry But
ler and P. H. Fitzgerald for several
days stay, returning here for a visit.

who have made their home in Blake
ly for the past several years, have
closed out their business in Blakely
and removed to Fort Gaines. We
understand Mr. Culpepper is to be
come a traveling salesman. These
good people will be greatly missed
from the religious and social life as
well as the business life of Blakely,
and they have legions of friends
whose good wishes follow them to
their new home.
