PREACH HERE
MONDAY NIGHT
Blakely folks, and the people with
in reach, are peculiarly fortunate in
having the privilege of hearing one
of the best speakers connected with
the Baptist denominational work on
next Monday night. Dr. W. D. Pow
ell, of Louisville, Ky., is making a
ten day tour of Georgia, speaking in
the interest of the Baptist program.
Pastor King is congratulating himself
that he was able to get Dr. Powell
to include Blakely as one of his
speaking points. The Albany Herald
gave a fine notice of his coming to
our neighboring city.
Let the Baptist people especially,
though all are invited, come from
the churches all over the county to
this great Rally on Monday night
and 1111 the spacious auditorium of
the Baptist church. The address be
gins at 7:30.
IMPORTANT CHANGES
MADE IN LUMBER
BUSINESS IN BLAKELY
The Hall-Balkcom Lumber Company
has discontinued business and closed
its plant at the old Blakely Variety
Works site. The W. A. Hall Lum
ber Company has succeeded this firm
and having bought out the plant of
the Blakely Manufacturing Co., has
moved its planer and other lumber
dressing machinery to the new loca
tion. The handle factory has sus
pended operations.
The new plant of the W. A. Hall
Lumber Co. will be modernly equip
ped. An extension of the switch
track from the siding of the Empire
Cotton Oil Co. will be made in the
near future. New stock sheds are
being built and the plant is being
remodeled with an eye to efficiency.

TWINS CELEBRATE
50TH BIRTHDAY
ANNIVERSARY
Tax Collector J. C. Loyless and
his twin sister, Mrs. Mary Stott, of
Bonifay, Fla., celebrated their fiftieth
birthday anniversary at the home
of their mother, Mrs. Ella Loyless,
last Sunday, September 21st. Mrs.
Stott came up Friday night with her
son, Eugene, and staid over until
Sunday afternoon. Mr. Charles D.
Duke accompanied them and after
visiting relatives in Calhoun county,
came back and enjoyed the Sunday
birthday spread at the home of the
happy old mother. The twins kept
their plans a secret from the dear
old soul until Mrs. Stott reached
Blakely. Then, of course, she sus
pected the cause of the visit and
enjoyed as only a loving mother can
the presence her children and the
celebration of their birthday.

GENERAL SAWYER DIES,
WAS LATE PRESIDENT
HARDING'S PHYSICIAN
Brigadier General Cbas. E. Saw'-
yer died at his home in Marion.
Ohio, Tuesday. His death was due
to heart disease.
General Sawyer was a personal
friend of the late President Harding
and was appointed the President's
personal physician shortly after the
inauguration.
At the time of his death General
Sawyer was chairman of the Hard
ing Memorial Association.

A Week in Atlanta Studying Fair Exhibits and
Modern Farm Methods Under Com
petent Instructors.
Atlanta.—There Is a slogan In use
In Texas, which runs: "The fitter the
folks, the fitter the State.” That
sounds good and It Is an absolute
truth.
Since the year of Its Inception, the
Southeastern Fair has been striving
to make fitter the folks of the section
It serves, and one of the means of at
taining this has been to work with the
young folks of the country.
One of the moat Important features
of the annual events Is the Southeast
ern Fair School, which Is made up of
two boys from eash county In Geor
gia, more than throe hundred boys,
who come to the fair, are provided
with meals and sleeping quarters, and
given Instruction dally during the fair
In matters pertaining to farming and
atooh raising.
The Instructors are furnished by the
state agricultural college, while the

railroad fares, meals and other ex
penses are paid for by the fair asso
ciation. These boys are the most pro
gressive in the communities from
.which they come, and are selected af
ter a competitive examination by coun
ty school superintendents or district
demonstration agents. The boys who
will come to the fair this year, October
4 to 11, have already been seleoted by
most of the counties. It is Impossible
to calculate the benefit which will
eventually accrue to the boyß, the com
munities and the State by reason of
these days spent studying the exhibits
at the fair.
Many of these boys have llvs stock
and agricultural exhibits at the fair,
and, whether they win any of the pre
miums or not, this demonstrates an
ambition and a desire for better things
and is part of the making of fitter folks
and a fitter State.
