Mr. and Mrs. Robert Underwood,
of Miami, Fla., are spending several
days in Blakely with the former’s
mother, Mrs. R. M. Underwood.
Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Jernigan, D.
A., J. M. and Sarah Jernigan went
over to Columbia Monday to attend
the funeral of Mrs. Jernigan’s fa
ther, Mr. A. N. Whitaker, who died
Sunday evening at 6:45 o’clock.
Friends of Mrs. L. R. Thompson
will be interested to know that she
is at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in
Baltimore, for treatment. It is sin
cerely hoped that she may soon be
able to return to her home greatly
improved.

seriously ill for several days, is now

Mrs. D. B. Jernigan.
Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Pritchett and
four children have recently moved to
Blakely from Mountain View, Ga.,
and are occupying the R. L. Howell
residence on Liberty street.
Mrs. R. L. Richardson, of Macon,
was the week end guest of her aunt,
Mrs. R. W. Davis. Mr. Richardson
came down for her Saturday, and
accompanied her home Sunday after
noon.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Cook an
nounce the birth of a baby son at
the Patterson Hospital, Cuthbert, on
Thursday night, June 10. The lit
tle fellow has been named Henry
Dean Cook.
Mrs. L. C. Hobbs left Tuesday for
Alachua, Fla. She will be the guest
of Mr. and Mrs. Horton H. Hobbs
until after the marriage of their
daughter, Miss Helen Hobbs, to Mr.
H. K. Wallace, on June 30th.
Mrs. James A. Richards and young
son, Jimmy, of Jasper, and Mrs. C.
A. De Vaughn and two young sons,
Carl and Linton, of Montezuma, ai
rived Wednesday to spend several
days with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Jones.
David and Talmadge Martin,
young sons of Mr. and Mrs. J. D.
Martin, were operated on at the
Frasier-Ellis hospital in Dothan last
Wednesday. Friends will be glad
to know that both of the lads are
doing nicely.
Mrs. W. J. Farriss and children,
Billie, Peggy, Donald and Carl, ex
pect to leave Saturday for Tulla
homa, Tenn., to visit relatives for
several weeks. Before returning
they will also visit relatives in Chat
tanooga and Cochran.
Mr. Johnnie Williams, Jr. is at
home for several days after graduat
ing from Georgia School of Tech
nology, where he received his B. S.
and M. E. degrees. Mr. Williams
leaves July 1 to accept a postion with
the Atlanta Ice Machinery Company.
Miss Kathryn Underwood, who
has been spending some time here
with her mother, Mrs. R. M. Under
wood, left today for Chicago, where
she will study during the summer.
She was accompanied as far as Al
bany by her mother and Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Underwood.
It will be of interest to friends
of Jimmy Solomon to know that
he is attending the Athens Y. M. C.
A. Camp at Tallulah Falls, and that
and that he has been assigned the
directorship of the younger boys’
unit at the camp. Jimmy two years
ago won the distinction of being
the most outstanding boy at the
camp, for which honor he was award
ed a silver cup. Jimmy was recent
ly graduated from Riverside Mili
tary Academy, where he made an
excellent record. The camp at Tal
lulah Falls will continue for eight I
weeks.

MISS McLENDON
WEDS MR. CONEY
The wedding of Miss Mabel Mc
; Lendon and Charlton Coney, of
' Hawkinsville, was solemnized Mon-
I day afternoon at the bride’s home.
! The Rev. Spencer B. King perform
ed the ceremony before a small
group of close friends and relatives.
The altar was banked with ferns,
interspersed with Shasta daisies, and
lighted by candelabra holding white
tapers.
Preceding the ceremony Miss Lu
cile Little, of Fort Valley, sang
“Oh! Promise Me” and “All for
You,” and Mrs. J. F. Coney, Jr.,
played “To a W : ld Rose.” During
the ceremony she played Lube
straum.
The bride’s only attendant was
her sister, Miss Nancy McLendon,
who wore pink chiffon with white
accessories. Her flowers were del
phinum and gypsophylla. The bride
entered with her brother, Robinson
McLendon, and was met at the altar
by the groom and his best man,
Frank Coney. The bride was lovely
in blue lace trimmed in navy taffe
ta, with navy accessories. She wore
pink sweetheart roses and lilies of
the valley.
The bride is the oldest daughter
of Mrs. R. R. McLendon and the
late R. R. McLendon. Her brothers
are Robinson McLendon and Guyton
McLendon, and her only sister is
Miss Nancy McLendon. She is an
honor graduate of Wesleyan College
and has taught in the Smithville
and Hawkinsville High Schools since
her graduation.
The bridegroom is the younger
son of Mrs. J. Frank Coney, Sr., of
Hawkinsville. He is a prominent
young business man and takes an
active part in social and civic ac
tivities. He is affiliated with the
Hawkinsville Motor Sales Company
as secretary and treasurer.
The young couple will make their
home in Hawkinsville.

Miss Thompson, the eldest daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, has
spent most of her life in Blakely.
Since her graduation from high
school here she has held positions in
Atlanta and Columbus. She is an
attractive young lady of the blonde
type, and is possessed of a person
ality that has made her many
friends.
Mr. Stewart holds a responsible
position with the Nehi Company in
Columbus, where he also has many
friends.
After the ceremony is solemnized,
the couple will take a short wedding
trip to Florida, and upon their return
will be at home to their friends at
973 Lawyer’s Lane, Columbus.

The couple took their vows in the
chapel of the Episcopal Church in
San Diego at a 6 o’clock ceremony,
June 11. The bride had as her only
attendant her sister, Mrs. George
McConnell, who was lovely in a two
piece suit of pale yellow with which
she wore white accessories. Her
flowers were a corsage of gardenias.
Mr. Bob Belt, of San Diego, was
best man.
The bride, a lovely brunette, was
given in marriage by her brother,
Mr. Bland McConnell. She was
radiant in a suit of white pebble
crepe featuring a short fitted coat.
Her accessores were white and her
corsage was of Talisman roses and
lilies of the valley.
The couple are making their home
in the Mirasol Apartments in San
Diego, where Mr. Maze, of the S. S.
Whitney, is stationed.

Miss Mary Grist, a June bride-elect,
was honored last week with several
lovely affairs.
Miss Sadie Standifer entertained
at a bridge luncheon, which was ex
quisite in each detail. Colorful gar
den flowers of yellow were used in
profusion throughout the lower
floor.
Miss Grist was presented a hand
made chair set and Mrs. Lloyd George
and Miss Genevieve Martin each at

Genevieve Martin, and the cut prize
to Miss Mary Will Morgan, of

Street Superintendent J. J. Mc-
Lendon left at the News office the
past week a wild sweet potato, found
with a number of others in a sand
pit north of the city. The tuber
was in the shape of a mole.

Miss Mary Lee Darden entertained
with a dance last Thursday night at
Woodlawn Park in honor of Miss
Lucia Morris, of Miami, Fla.
During the' dance iced punch was
served to about twenty guests.
Miss Darden was dressed in a
printed seersucker evening gown
trimmed with red, made belero style.
The guest of honor wore a floor
length dress of pink and white swiss
dot trimmed with white, and wore a
corsage of white flowers.
The chaperones were Mrs. Ada
