Mr. Mobley Howell, of the U. S.
Navy, spent several days in Blakely
last week with Mr. and Mrs. Wilton
Howell. Mobley is a mechanic aboard
one of Uncle Sam’s big bombers.
Mr. and Mrs. James Renfroe, of
Columbus, are visiting Mrs. Renfroe’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Godwin.
Mr. Renfroe will leave today for
Fort Benning, having enlisted in the
army.
Herman Collier, a last year’s grad
uate of the Blakely high school, has
completed his course at a NYA
school at Camp Jackson and has
been judged one of the three best
welders in that school, his friends
will be interested to learn.
Mrs. N. H. Strickland and young
son, Henry, arrived last Thursday
from Corozal, Canal Zone, where
they have been stationed for some
time, following an order evacuating
all women and children from the
Canal Zone. Mrs. Strickland, after
a visit to the family of Dr. J. G.
Standifer, left Monday for Miami,
Fla., to enter her son in school.
Miss Eugenia Reed, of Cedar
Springs, has been named to the cab
inet of the Y. W. C. A. at Georgia
State Womans College, Valdosta, for
the year 1942-43. Miss June Mose
ly, of Jakin, another Early county
college student, is president. Miss
Reed, a member of the Freshman
class, sings with the vesper choir
and is active in the Phi Lamba team
of the Sports Club.

ell made a very important arrest
yesterday when he took in one Hank
Flanagan, a negro with an Irish
name. Hank went up to New Jersey
with the first batch of emigrant
Negroes from this section and came
back as an agent for certain parties
in that section to induce others of
his race to emigrate to that new El
dorado.

AMANDA MURRAY, an aged col
ored woman, died at the home of
her daughter, Mollie Bailey, five
miles west of Blakely, last night aft
er a long illness. She had been the
black-mammy to three of the edi
tor’s children and her death has
brought a personal sorrow into our
household.
THE Bainbridge Post-Searchlight
has installed a linotype machine and
now Bro. Pat Griffin’s vocabulary
can have a full play . . . and Gris can
surely sling some English.

Mrs. D. A. Megahee motored out to
Glenn Springs Sunday, bringing back
Mrs. Lay’s father, Mr. Hardrick, and
Mr. Earl Megahee, who had been rus
ticating at the Springs for several
days.

Cox, W. W. Beard and W. A. Hall
left this morning for Wakulla, Fla.,
on a few days’ fishing trip.
