Mr. and Mrs. George Earl Beasley,
of Davenport, lowa, announce the birth
of a daughter, March 8.
Mr. and Mrs. D. H. McDowell re
turned home Monday from a ten-day
vacation trip to Sarasota and Tempa,
Fla. .
The General Meeting of Blakely
Methodist W. S. C. S. will be held
Monday, 3:30 o'clock, at the church, it
is announced.
Friends are glad to know that Mrs.
Dewey Jones is at home and recuper
ating from a recent operation at a
Thomasville hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Winkler announce
the birth of a daughter, Rebecca June,
March 25, at Baxley's Clinic. Mrs.
Winkler is the former Miss June Sims.
Jack L. Jenkins,.son of Mr. and Mrs.
C. P. Jenkins, has enlisted in the U. S.
Air Force and is taking his basic train
ing at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman S. Buck and
daughter, Miss Alison Buck, of New
Haven, Conn., spent the week end
here with the family of Mrs. Buck's
brother, Mr. W. L. Stone.
Dr. and Mrs. Jack G. Standifer at
tended a dinner meeting of the George
Walton Chapter, Sons of the American
Revolution, at the Hotel Gordon in
Albany last Thursday night.

The Junior Woman’s Club will have
a dance Friday night, April 1, at the
Woman’s Clubhouse. Music will be
furnished by a band from Colquitt.

C. S. Chandler, C. E. Martin and
Sevola Jones, members of the Early
county board of commissioners, and
C. C. (Tuck) Swann attended the
convention of the association of county
commissioners, in Augusta this week.
Mrs. Herman Richardson, regent
of Peter Early Chapter, Daughters of
the American Revolution, and Mrs.
L. L. Cubbedge attended the 67th State
D. A. R. Conference, held Thursday,
Friday, and Saturday in Savannah at
the DeSoto Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. John Scarborough
and family visited in Orlando, Fla.,
during the weekend with the former's
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Dwight Todd. Mr. Todd, who is
from Leesburg, Fla., had undergone a
major operation in the Orange Mem
orial Hospital in Orlando.
A local man has joined a well known
Albany law firm. He is Charles Nor
man Spence, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C.
Spence, who this week became a junior
member of the law firm of Watson
and Keenan—this being the firm of
G. Stuart Watson and Paul A, Keenan,
Jr. Mr. Spence is the youngest son of
his parents, was born and reared in
the city, graduated from the Blakely
high school and the University of
Georgia, and saw service in the U. S.
Marine Corps. The firm of Watson and'
Keenan has offices at 304 C and S
Bank, and Mr. Spence will be happy
to have his Blakely friends call on him
there.
Mrs. George W. Nelson attended the
State Conference of the Georgia So
ciety Daughters of the American
Revolution at the DeSoto Hotel, Sa
vannah, Georgia, March 24, 25 and 26.
Mrs. Nelson served as State Recording
Secretary during the Conference and
was elected President of the Georgia
DAR Chapter Regents' Club for 1960-
1961, This organization has 540 mem
bers which include all active and past
chapter Regents of Georgia. Mrs. Nel
son was accompanied by Mrs. Frank
F. Faulk, of Albany, State Historian
of the Georgia Society DAR.

HONOR ROLL
The Peter Early Chapter, Daughters
of the American Revolution, received
second place award for General Ex
cellence in the group from one to fifty
based on membership, at the 67th State
Convention, held in Savannah last
‘week,
~ The local chapter made the state
honor roll, and received the High
tower cash award, which is made for
work done for Approved Schools. Mrs.
R. B. Jennings is chairman of th® Ap
proved Schools committee.
The Peter Early Chapter was first
to send in “their report and go over
the quota of fifty per cent for maga
zine advertising and received a cash
;award for their work in this area.

C. A. R. MEETS |
The Captain Johnston Blakely So
ciety, C. A. R, met recently at the
home of Sydney Chandler, with Sue
Felder, president, presiding and 14
members present. Eleanor Martin led
in the opening prayer; Sydney Chand
ler led the group in the pledge of al
legiance; and Kay Still led the C. A. R,
Creed.
Julie Hattaway reported on the State '
C. A. R. Conference held in Atlanta
on February 26 and 27. Julie was a
delegate from the local society. '
Mrs. George Nelson exhibited the
two silver cups and four awards that!
were presented to the Captain John- |
ston Blakely Society at the State Con
ference and stated they would be'
placed on display at the Blakely High'
School trophy room. '
Julie Hattaway, Kay Still, and Ei-|
leen Tarver were named on the nomi-“
nating committee and Mrs. J. W. Bon-?
ner was elected as the senior officer |
to serve with the committee in nomi-|
nating officers for the coming year.i
The society named Mrs. George Nel- |
son as honorary member. Mrs. Nelson|
has served as Senior organizing pres
ident. |
Miss Annette Alexander was wel- |
comed as the new senior president of |
the local society and will serve in this
capacity for the coming year. Miss |
Alexander was appointed by Mrs.|
H. M. Richardson, regent of the Peter |
Early Chapter, D. A. R., the sponsoring{
organization. ‘
The meeting was closed with al
prayer by Eleanor Martin. Refresh-\
ments were served by the hostess,
Sydney Chandler, assisted by her |
‘mother, Mrs. T. S. Chandler. ‘
UNION H. D. CLUB
The Union H. D. Club held its regu
lar meeting Tuesday, March 22, with
11 members present.
Mrs. Harvey Woolf presided. Mrs.
Calvin Cannon gave the devotional.
All club members were reminded
that the Dress Revue would be held at
our next meeting, April 26.
There were 4 volunteers to help with
the County Cancer Drive. They are:
Mrs. Calvin Cannon, Mrs. C. S. Chand
ler, Mrs. Jim Cox, and Mrs. Harvey
Woolf.
Miss Hester's most interesting dem
onstration was on the making of Tier
ed Tidbit Trays.
Mrs. Allison Taylor and Mrs. Calvin
Cannon were the hostesses for this
meeting.
