the State Delta Kappa Gamma
Convention at Callaway Gardens,
April 5-6; she was accompanied
by Mrs. Hubert Miller and Mrs.
Marvin Thigpen of Bainbridge.
At the memorial service held
during the convention, in the
number of deceased members
named was Mrs. Beth Duncan
of Americus, Georgia, a former
resident of Blakely.
Randy Brooks, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Brooks, is convales
cing at home following surgery
at Arlington City Hospital the
past Friday and Is reported doing
nicely.
Johnny Edmondson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Edmondson, has
returned home from Pheobe Put
ney Hospital after undergoing
treatment there the past week
following a one-car accident on
the Leary-Newton Road Friday,
April 5. The young Early County
High School student received
severe cuts on the face and minor
injuries in the accident. Friends
will be interested to learn he is
improving and has been dismiss
ed from the hospital.

ed the ceremony of Extinguish
ing the Lights and the Commemo
ration of the Last Supper at the
Scottish Rite Masonic Temple
in Albany on Maundy Thursday,
April 11. The ceremony of Re
lighting the Lights was held on
Easter Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. George W. Smith
of Baltimore, Md., are visiting
their daughter, Mrs. Talmadge
Henry and her family for the
Easter holidays.
Mr. W. L. Lacey, of Cedar
Springs, attended the Master’s
Golf Tournament in Augusta the
past Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Williams
of Chamblee, spent the week
end with Mrs. Bernice Temples
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. R. G Singletary,
Jr., spent several days last week
in Augusta, to attend the Mas
ter’s Golf Tournament. Their
daughter, Anne, who is practice
teaching in Atlanta, met them
there.
Mrs. E. L. Williams had as
her guests the past week her
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Billy Wil
liams and grand-son, Tommy of
Tampa, Florida. Mrs. Williams’
son, Billy, arrived Saturday to
be with his family on Easter.
They returned home Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Coley Eldridge
and Mr. and Mrs. Ollin Bush
spent the past week-end in Pana
ma City Beach, Fla. On Satur
day night they attended a Square
Dance held at the Fountainbleau
Motel.

Atlanta spent several days re
cently with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Jones, and other relatives. Mrs.
Eaton is the former Miss Judy
Jones.
Miss Geta Smith, a member
of the faculty of a Jacksonville
High ’ School spent the spring
holidays with Mr. Willie Tom
Smith, and sisters, Misses Ellen
and Kathleen Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Tiner,
of Cedar Springs, left last Thurs
day to spend the Easter holidays
with their children in Atlanta.
They returned Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jody Middleton,
of Atlanta, spent the Easter week
end with Mr. and Mrs. H. J.
Middleton.
Elizabeth Womble and Mary
Carol Kuczynski was at home
for Easter holidays. Both girls
are students at Georgia South
ern College, Statesboro.

Mickle of Atlanta, Ga., spent
the Easter holidays with Mr.
and Mrs. Bruce Lindsey.
Mrs. Beatrice Hasty, Mel
bourne, Fla., spent the past week
end with her niece, Mrs. Verna
Sammons and family.
Visting Mr. and Mrs. R. E.
Glass and Eddie, the past two
weeks was Keith Bostwick of
Orlando, Florida. Spending the
Easter holidays with the Glass
es’ were their children, Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Bostwick, Orlando,
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Glass,
and sons, Thomasville. Keith re
turned home with his parents on
Sunday afternoon.
Iris Jarrett, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Mack Jarrett has re
turned to Valdosta State College,
where she is a student, after
spending Easter with her family.
Mr. and Mrs. Rick Houston
and son, returned to their home
in South Carolina after spending
the past week with Mr. Bob Hous
ton and family.
Mr. W. IL Hargrove and son,
Ronnie, of Pensacola, Fla., spent
the week-end as the house guests
of Mr. and Mrs. 11 11 Hargrove.
Mr. David Baker, son-in-law
of Mr. and Mrs. H. IL Hargrove,
who attends Huntingdon College
was one of the twelve students
listed on the Dsan’s List the
past month.

Beverly Gilbert
Beverly Gilbert, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James F. Gilbert,
308 Westward Avenue, junior at
the University of Cincinnati Col
lege-Conservatory of Music, has
received the Cincinnati Symphony
Club Piano Award for 1968-69.
Since entering the College-
Conservatory in the Fall of '65,
where she studies with Raymond
Dudley and John Bigg, pianlsts
in-residence, Miss Gilbert has
won a total of nine competitions
and scholarships. She is also
president of Delta Omlcron, pro
fessional music sorority, and a
member of Alpha Lambda Delta,
national women’s honor society.
Miss Gilbert is working toward
the Bachelor of Music degree in
piano at Cincinnati’s famed music
school. She is an alumna of Blak
ely High School.

Celestine Sibley
National Library Week will be
observed in many ways in Blak
ely, the highlight of the obser
vance planned by the Early County
Library Board is the Book and
Author Luncheon on Thursday,
April 25 at the Town and Coun
try Club when Celestine Sibley,
novelist and feature writer of
Atlanta, Georgia will be the guest
speaker.
A nationally syndicated colum
nist-reporter on the Atlanta Con
stitution, Miss Sibley has won
numerous awards for her journa
lism, including two Associated
Press Awards and a national
Christopher Award. She is list
ed in Who’s Who in America
and Who’s Who of American
Women.
The guest author has said she
would autograph books she has
Written, if the books are brought
to the luncheon, but she does
not sell her books, personally
and will not bring then to auto

Mobley Howell was the speaker
at the Friday, April 12, meeting
at the Blakely Woman’s Club
luncheon, held at rhe clubhouse.
The 195th session of the Geor
gia Legislature was a long ses
sion, the House of Representa
tives and Senate had its lighter
side, but there were 1400 bills
and resolutions introduced! 25
bills of major importance were
’’A Place Called Sweet Apple”.
Mrs. George Nelson, chairman
of the Early County Library
Board, will preside, Mrs. Robin
son R. Me Lendon, will give the
invocation, Mr. and Mrs. Perry
Bridges will present a musical
medley and Rep. Mobley Howell
will introduce the speaker, at the
Book and Author Luncheon, Mrs..

Engagement Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Harris of
Felixstowe, England, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Maureen Kay Harris, to Jack
Lewis Jenkins, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Paschal Jenkins
of Blakely, Georgia.
The bride-elect attended Fe
lixstowe Secondary Modern, East
Suffolk, England and has been a

Mr. Jenkins has served eight
years in the U.S. Air Force and

There are three counties in the
district to which Early County
now belongs. Clay, Quitman and
Early County have been placed
in the same district, the dis
tinguished Executive Director of
the local Chamber of Commerce
told the clubwomen. He was
introduced by Mrs. Charles Boy
ett, Jr., Chairman of the Legis
lative Committee of the Blakely
Woman’s Club, and program
chairman for the luncheon meet
ing. Mrs. Boyett also intro
duced Mrs. J. M. Kitchens, PTA
Talent Show Chairman, who pre
sented the winners in the Talent
Show, Jill Gleaton and Sue Tay
lor. The talented high school
girls sang, “This Land” to their
accompaniment on the guitar.
Mrs. J. H. Crowdis, Jr., presi
dent presided and named a nomi
nating committee composed of
Mrs. J. R. Burks, Mrs. Charles
DeLoach and Mrs. Marshall Day.
Officers are to be elected and
installed at the May meeting,
which is the month when dues
for the coming year are col
lected and members will be ask
ed to commit themselves for the
month they will serve as hostess
and their preference of the club’s
committees.
President Crowdis announced
the State Convention, GFWC, will
be held at Callaway Gardens,
April 22-24. She reported on
the District meeting held in
March in Albany. Attending from
the Blakely Woman’s Club be
sides Mrs. Crowdis were, Mrs.
D H. McDowell and Mrs. Jo
anna SI Dean.
Visitors at the April meeting
included: Mrs. J. Si Weathers
of Cairo and Mrs. Ralph M.-
