Buses Are Ready!
Keeping 40 buses running is no easy job according to (L-R) Bus Shop Foreman
Donnie Bynum, Transportation Director Judson Cooper, bus mechanic Wallace
Garrod, and GSP Schoo, Bus Inspector Sgt. John McGriff.
Early County School System bus
drivers will be reporting Wednesday
of this week to pick up their buses and
school bus routes.
Every year before the school year
begins, the Georgia State Patrol sends
in a special unit to pull an annual
school bus inspection.
The inspection unit, headed by Sgt.
John McGriff, inspected Early Coun
ty’s 40 school buses here last week at
the school bus shop on Washington

40 buses will log over 500,000 miles
during the 82-83 school year Mr.
Cooper added that the school system
has managed to reduce the number of
buses and drivers from 48 in 1970 to 30
in 1982 by utilizing the larger 72
passenger capacity buses.
He also stated that three new buses
were scheduled to arrive in
November, and that several spare

“There seems to be no rhyme or

Like Watson, both Underwood and
Lovett hailed Ginn’s leadership
abilities and stressed the need for an
independent governor in contrasting
him to his run-off opponent, Joe Frank
Harris.
“Our Constitution wisely demands a
separation of powers between the
legislative and executive branches of
government,” said Underwood. “I
believe Bo Ginn will have the deter
mination and political skills to prevent
the Executive Branch from being sub
missive to the Legislative Branch. I
know him well enough to feel secure
that he will not retreat in the face of
pressure from legislative leaders.”
Added Lovett: “Anyone who has

Opening Day
Important
Mr. Ray Knight, Superintendent of
Schools, wishes to inform the parents
of students enrolled in the local public
schools that important information
will be given to their children the first
day of school, Friday, August 20.
This information relates to the new
promotion policy for grades K-12. This
policy was recommended by
members of the Early County School
System Promotion Policy Committee,
and adopted by the Early County
Board of Education.
The policy details the requirements
for promotion from one grade to
another and should be of vital impor
tance for all parents. Mr. Knight sug
gests that all parents ask their
children for this information. If there
are questions or clarification needed,
please contact the principal where the
student is enrolled.

she stated.
The Early County Commissioners
had set the maintenance and opera

school tax at 7.42 mills.
Additional millage included .50 for
school bond indebtedness and another
.25 for State Property Tax.

Under New Head Coach Ric Hall
Nw Head Coach Ric Hall is pleased
overall with the progress the Early
County Bobcats are making thus far
in his first campaign with the Cats.
“They are working real hard and
have learned a lot. But with the
changes I’ve made coming in as head
coach, we still have a long way to go
before we’re ready to play,” Hall
stated.
“Our biggest concern at this time is
whether we are tough enough mental
ly and physically” he continued. “We
can get there but we have a lot of hard
work ahead.”

ministrator Billy Broadway.
“The state does not adjust their .25
millage when they apply a factor to
our digest. We adjust our millage to
provide the necessary revenue, but
the state receives a windfall provided
by the factor”, Broadway stated.
Broadway continued, “There is
nothing fair about the way the digests
are factored year-in and year-out.”
“They have a built-in factor of some
kind reflecting a certain amount of
depth; Coach Hall stated, “If we get 2
or 3 kids hurt, it could be a tough year
for us, we are just too thin at the skill
positions.
