First Hunt, First Buck!

First hunt, first shot, and first buck! Not many young hunters are that for
tunate, but 10 year-old Tally Holman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lodge Holman, nailed
his first buck just that way.
Tally sat in his stand and watched the buck for 10 minutes in clear view and
easy shooting range, but in an area of woods his dad told him not to shoot (think
ing the young hunter would miss in that area).
So, Tally “calmly” waited until the buck walked out where he had been told to
shoot.
To top the hunt off, they could not find the deer’s trail after dark, so the fami'”
dashound, "Miss' Noodles Holman”, promptly responded by making tow quick
circles, hitting the trail, and baging the dead deer about a 100 yards away in the
darkness.

The most important fact they realiz
ed about Drug prevention in Colum
bus was that it must start with the
parents in the home. And that it is not
possible for the schools to handle the
problem of drug prevention.
Therefore, the drug awareness pro
gram in Muscogee County has
centered around parent organizations
such as the PTA. They also have in
volved the business community, mak
ing them aware that drugs are not just
a kid problem but a total community
problem.
At a drug awareness meeting here
last week, Billy Broadway stated,
“The drug problem is "our” problem.
In order to solve the drug problem in
Early County it will take the combin
ed effort of our whole community. In
order to start solving this problem our

There is no one thing that we can do
that will totally solve our drug pro

the problem, the school personnel
must supervise the students and work
with the parents in helping their
children, the Recreation Department
must provide the proper programs to
keep the children away from the in
fluence of drugs and put them in the
proper environment. And, the
Business Community must provide
the overall support and encourage
ment for these programs.
At last week's meeting, three main
committees were formed to address
the problems facing the Early County
effort toward drug awareness. These
committees were the Business
Leaders Committee, School Personel
