The Muscular Dystrophy Association recently recognized Blakely and Early
County as having the number one pledge center in the WALB-TV coverage area.
The MDA presented the Blakely Jaycees a trophy for showing more pledge
growth than any other out-lying pledge center.
Jaycee President Rick Garton stated, “This trophy belongs to the community.
The Jaycees realize that without the cooperation of the people of the community,
none of the MDA projects would have been a success.”
The trophy will be on display for several weeks at the Early County Library for
everyone to see.
In addition to the MDA Labor Day Telethon, the Jaycees conducted other fund
raisers such as the Skate-A-Thon and Road Blocks, and solicited corporate dona
tions. In all, over $4,000 was raised in Blakely and Early County for MDA.
