Crackdown on New Law
Proof of Auto Insurance
Beginning this month, Georgia
motorist who cannot produce proof of
insurance are subject to pay a $25
fine.
The Georgia State Patrol warned
Georgia motorist last week that
beginning January 1 they will begin
strict enforcement of a new law re
quiring drivers to carry proof
of insurance at all times.

If a motorist is covered, but does not
have proof, he will be cited by the of

insurance company on the ticket.
When the motorist appears in court
he must bring proof of coverage and it
must be dated prior to the date of the

If the motorist has no coverage, the
law requires the car to be hauled off.
State troopers will accept as proof
of insurance a copy of the policy, a
binder issued by an insurance agent,
or an insurance card.
The insurance card must show the
expiration date of the policy and note
whether the policy is paid in full or
financed over a period of time.
The new law was designed to im-

Forms Mailed This Week
The 1982 Census of Agriculture gets
underway this week with the mailing
of report forms to fanners and ran
chers in the 50 states.
Farmers are being asked to report
on their agricultural operations dur
ing 1982 and to return the form by
Feb. 15, 1983. The 1982 census is the
nation’s 22nd agriculture census in a
series that started in 1840.
For the first time in a mail
agriculture census report forms will
reflect regional cropping patterns to
make reporting easier.
Fann and ranch operators will be
asked to report the acreage in their
operations, form of ownership, type of
organization, location of the place,
use made of the land, and when their
operations began. Other questions
will cover livestock and poultry inven
tories and sales, amount of govern
ment crop loans, crop acreage,
amount harvested, and value of crops
and livestock sold.

1982 and signed into law by Gov.
George Busbee.
Scheduled to go into effect on
November 1,1982, enforcement of the
new law was delayed until January 1
to give insurance companies time to
print new wallet-sized cards for their
policy-holders.
About 20 percent of farmers and
ranchers will receive a form with an
additional page which has inquiries
on: selected production expenses,
market value of land and buildings,
machinery and equipment inventory
and vlaue, interest expenses and ex
penditures for petroleum and other
energy sources.
Assistance in completing census
forms is available locally from offices
of the Cooperative Extension Service,
Soil Conservation Service,
Agriculture Stabilization and Conser
vation Service, Vocational
Agriculture Teachers, Production
Credit Associations, and Farmers
Home Administration.
A file copy of the report form is pro
vided which operators can complete
and keep for their own records.
A time extension can be granted
farmers who request it. Census
results will be publishedd for each

Glynis Glass, 16 year old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Glass of Blakely,
will be among eleven girls competing
in the 1983 National Limousin Queen
Contest to be held January 21,1983 in
Denver, Colorado.
The girls will be judged on beauty,
poise, and their knowledge of the
Limousin breed of cattle.
Miss Glass is the current Georgia
Limousin Queen and will be represen
ting the Georgia Limousin Breeders
Association. Glynis is currently a
junior at Southwest Georgia Academy
where she is varsity cheerleader and
secretary-treasurer of the Y-Club.
She has also received academic let
ters for scholastic achievement.
Glynis is an active 4-H Club member
serving currently as Senior Club
President at SGA. She is a past
member of the Georgia 4-H Fashion
Board and serves as a Junior 4-H
leader. She has participated in the
State Egg Preparation Contest and

The Blakely Fire Department
responded to 60 fire calls during 1982.
Those 60 fires caused an estimated
$2,065,300 in property damages.
There were 17 house fires causing
$61,000 in damages. Eight cooking
fires caused $1,300 damage, $1,500 by
9 auto fires, $3,500 by 6 truck fires,
$13,000 by a barn fire, $76,000 by 10
