Mr. Robert Pace, Principal of Early County Elementary School, is shown
presenting two boxes of candy to the second grade class of Miss June Wills. Miss
Wills' class collected the most money for the Early County Heart Fund in the se
cond grade and were the over-all winners in the school, collecting $70.91.
Hie total collection for the elementary school was $871.21. Mrs. Henrietta
Ready was chairman for the Elementary Heart Fund Drive.
Shooting Dog Classic
The Early County Shooting Dog
Classic has been set for the weekend
of March sth and 6th.
The intent of these field trails is to
select the “best bird dog to take bird
hunting” on that given day.
The event will be held at the lower
Davis Place (pecan orchard) just off
highway 62 about 9-10 miles east of
Blakely.
The entry fee is $20.00 per dog. Dog
handlers will have a choice of working
their dogs either from foot or
horseback.
All entries for the field trial should
be in before the drawing which will be
held Thursday, March 3rd, at Early
Tractor Co. at 7:30 p.m.

Haddocks Named
District Winner
Henry Haddock (L) of H & H Farms
in Damascus, is shown receiving an
award plaque for being a district win
ner in the 1982 Georgia Peanut Money
Maker Club. Diamond Shamrock
Chemical Corproation sponsored a
three-day seminar to Longboat Key,
Florida for the winning producers.
Henry and his brother, Hal, produced
6,233 pounds of peanuts per acre on a
17 acre allotment. Presenting the
award was John Anderson (C) of Dia
mond. Looking on is Wayne
Tankersley, Early County Extension
Director.

COMPUTERS
An interesting field has been opened
to the students participating in the
gifted program at ECHS...computers!
Mrs. Helton is teaching computer pro
graming to the students in their
regular mathematics classes.
At the present time, the classes are
using four computers, APPLE II with
a disc drive and printer, an APF Im
agination Machine, a Commodore
Pet, and a TIMEX Sinclair.
Students are learning BASIC pro
gramming and get a chance to work
with the computers on their own.
Anyone interested in entering the
gifted program should contact Mrs.
Helton.

SCIENCE
The Physical Science Curriculum at
Early County High School includes
the courses of Physics, Chemistry,
and Physical Science.
The Physics classes have just com
pleted the study of the machines and
how these machines make work
easier.
The Chemistry classes are learning
how to write chemical formulas;
name compounds when two or more
elements combine; and write em
pirical and molecular formulas.
The Physical Science classes are
analyzing the periodic chart of the
elements.
The advanced biology students are
studying genetics and working
hereditary problems.
The general groups bare studying
nucleic acids. They have just com
pleted several labs constructing the
DNA molecule in replication and pro
tein synthesis.
The Human Anatomy class is just
completing a study of the nervous
system. In lab, they observe the sheep
brain.
