The lovely garden of Mr.l. D. Felder, Sr. has been selected as the February ‘Garden of The Month’.
Bordering this yard is a fence covered with iw and at one end is a new olantine of confederate jasmine. To the rear of the
yard there are ornamental and Japanese magnolias and interspersed throughout the yard are camelias of all varieties
There is a scupernong arbor and areas of bulbs for bloom at different times of the year.
Groupings of boxwood with ground cover beneath enhance the front of the house and to the sides and rear there is
evergreen shrubbery such as podacarpus. nandina. tea olive, banana shrub and others lending height in complimentary
places. Along with these there are low plantings of evergreens.
The lawn is a smooth carpet of centipede. Mrs. Felder has carefully planned her yard over the years, and takes pleasure
in having it recognized once again in her 91st year.

Students in Mrs. Hall’s third grade
listened to “Fog” by Carl Sandburg
and "The Fog” by William Henry
Davies. There were to imagine
themselves in a heavy fog and write a
poem about their feelings.
Fog
I was alone on a cool night.
The fog brushed my cheek.
The trees disappeared
And the fog was thick.
You could hardly see through it,
It was as w^ .te as snow.
Matt Smith
The Shadowy Fog
Once I sat on the steps to think;
Then suddenly the fog came like a
Sheet cuddling me up in it.
It became as dark as a shadow
creeping up to give me a fright,
As the fog rolled in it became
very thick,
Like a tunnel with no ending
and-
There’s no way to escape.
Kristy Hickox
What Fog Is
The fog is a cloudiness
where no one can see.
It erases the earth
and trees and sky.
It comes when cold.
The cars turn on
their lights.
They glisten through the fog
As shining little stars
so lively and bright.
Kristen McLendon
The Fog
Quiet and White as the snow.
Big and fluffy as the clouds.
Fog crept softly from place to place.
It crept softly from place to place.

Trustees, University of Georgia Foun
dation, explained “The State of
Georgia is our campus. There are
educational services are available
wherever needed and can best be ob
tained by contacting Wayne
Tankersley, Early County Extension
Director, or by calling the ap
propriate office at the University in
Athens.”
Some of the University units which
provide educational services to
Georgians are: The Cooperative Ex
tension Service, the Institute of
Government, the Small Business
Development Center, the Institute of
Community and Area Development,
the Museum of Art, the Museum of
Natural History and the Georgia
Center for Continuing Education. As
Dr. Younths explained, “No other
university in this nation dedicates its
resources to serving the people of its
state as well as the University of
Georgia.”
Historical
Society To Meet
Mrs. Vivian M. Sherlock of
Tallahassee will be the guest speaker
for the March 7, 1983 meeting of the
Early County Historical Society. She
holds a Master's Degree in English
from Florida State University and has
taught in numerous colleges. Mrs.
Sherlock is the author of the book, The
Fever Man, which is a biography of
Dr. John Gorrie. This biography
depicts a man whose name few
recognize but whom left his mark in
history.
The author herself states, “My
reason for writing this book was to sift
through the body of legend surroun
ding Dr. Gorrie and to arrange the
few remaining intangible facts into a
narrative which would reveal his
aims and put into proper prespective
his contribution to human welfare.”
The meeting will held at 7:30 p.m. at
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Bonnie
Balkcom. Directions to their
residence is as following: Proceed
north of Blakely on U.S. 27 about six
miles. Turn right at the Colmokee
Crossroads (First paved right). The
house is one mile on the right. The
house is located on the Fairfield-
Whampee Road (more recently
known as the Rock-mine Road). It is
the first house on the right. A sign say
ing “Historical Society" will mark the
entrance to the driveway.
The Fog
The fog falls on the city,
magic in the air,
The lights on the city,
the fog is there.
As smokey as a campfire,
watch the fog get higher and higher.
I see a lake in the distance,
and the fog is gone right this instant.
