THURSDAY, MAY 30, 1871
Our Wedding Day,
Time may silver tbs locks and bend
the forms of tba faithful lovers who,
united in the bonds of holy wedlock,
in their early youth, bare jointly bat
tled with the storms of life, and tasted
together the modicum of bliss
which is left, after applying the ‘‘wise
man's’ reflection, ‘Vanity of vanities,
all is vanity.’ But the fountain of
affection is perennial—and each wrink
le that furrows the placid brow of
your beat beloved, i« another touch,
ing testimonial of her constancy and
unswerving fidelity to the partner of
her youth. Matches (good ones) are
made in heaven, is a familiar saying,
and we know that we have divine au
thority for the remark that a good wife
ia.from the Lord. The relation of hns-
band and wife ia by far the nearest
and dearest of earth. No human be*
ing, not even the mother that bore
you ia permitted to penetrate within
the inner vail of that holy of holies,
where lay enshrined the domestic ar
cana of two trusting souls, mysteri
ously welded into one. Friends may
desert you, the shafts of calumny as
sail your fair name, pecuniary reverses
rob you of the coroforio °f a life of toil,
and misfortunes thicken about your
head like the black shades of an
Egyptian Digit, but secure in the
heart love aod devoted companionship
ofyonrgentli helpmeet, the star of
hope still shines above the horizon.
We love, taen, to see the annual
reenrrenee of thst’wedding day, which
elands forth unique and alone in the
calendar of existence, celebrated with
feasting and thanksgiving, with joy
and praise. Let the children growing
up like olive plants about your table
regard it as the event of the year, and
learn thus early to honor and revere
that holy institution, which, created
by God himself, may not be sundered
without guilt and shame. And as the
partners for long years through sun
shine and shade dravt near the dread
portals of eternity, let their arms be
twined about each other more loving
ly than ever; let words of comfort and
cheer and ever fall from their lips in
the moments of sickness and Badness,
which, alas, we are told shall ‘be many;’
‘in honor preferring one another,’ let
each strive to alleviate the cares and
brighten the last hours of the other,
Then willy our joint mission on earth be
well and fitly done, and together you
shall enter those pearly gates, where,
renewed in youth, absolved from cares
and infirmities, and basking in the
full radience of the glorious presence
of the Father God, yonrs shall be a
Union more perpetual and unfading
than the stars of heaven.—Macon

Tub Atlanta Greeley Meeting.—
The Columbus Sun of the 23 rd inst.,
eays: “As we reported yesterday,
the Greeley and Brown meeting at
Atlanta (excluding Democrats and
refusing to hear Judge Linton Steph
ens) was a complete flash in the pan.
The idea of BO-called Democrats as
sembling in secret conclave to endorse
a Republican nomination in advance
of a Democratic Convention » as ridic
ulous as it is illiberal and impolitic.—
In view of auch meetings, well may
the fanner of Chappaqua exc’aim,
“Save me from my friends 1” Tacitus
tells us it was an ancient Gorman cus
tom to first deliberate when drunk,
then when sober, and then again when
drank, before a conclusion on great
matters of State was ready for action.
The Atlanta Greeleyites must have
stopped at the first stage, and no doubt
feel now like, appealing from Philip
drunk to Philip sober.
“The papers report that Ben 'Bill
was the author of this still-born bant
ling. We know “Our Ben’s” vanity
and ambition have often proved too
mnch for his god horse sense, but in
this particular, we beiieve some cab
bage- headed, carrot-haired, turnip,
nosed fellow, green and soft as a young
squash, put this ball in motion. Such
pumpkins may prove, soft as they are,
too much for the bead of the farmer
pnd philosopher.”
A Georgia Manufactory.—The
Cuthbert Appeal says: “The Daw
son Car Manufacturing Company
employ regularly at good wages from
seventy-five to one hundred mechan
ics. They are supplying many of
the Southern roads with cars of the
best style, and Colonel Nelson, the
President, says they are going into
the manufacture of passenger
coaches at once, and have orders
now on hand to be filled. They use
Georgia and Alabama iron and
Georgia pine.
The forest fire in Long Island
was started by a lunatic, and has
destroyed $20,000 worth of wood.
