THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5; 1872.
Tb* Liberal Platform.
The following or* to* reenlutsou* ia full
adopted by tb* Libor*1 Republics* National
Ceereutiou ut Cincinnati in May, and and*r»-
ad by Ota Damoaratia Convention in Jaij:
Wo, tba Liberal Republican* of tbe United
■tataa, in National C jnrentiou ataembled at
Cincinnati, proclaimed the following prineiplea
aa ericntial to a just government:
Pint—We recognise tbe equality of all men
before tb* law, and bold that it ix tbe dnty of
tbe government, in its dealings With tbe people,
t* mete eat equal and exact justice to all; of
whatever nativity, race, color, persuaaion, re
ligious or political.
Secopd—Wa pledge onrtalrea to maintain
tba anion of these States, emancipation and
enfranchisement, and to oppose any reopening
af the questions settled by the Thirteenth,
Yearteentb and fifteenth amendment* of the
constitution,
Third—W* demand tb* immediate abd abso
lute removal of all disablllities imposed on ac-
eeant of the rebellion, which was finally sub
toed seven years ago, believing that universal
amnesty will result In tbe complete pacification
*f all section* of tb* country.
I ourtb—Local self-government, with impar
tial suffrage, will guard tbe rights of all cilixens
■ort xecurely than any centralised power. Tbe
public welfare require! the supremacy of tbe
eivil over the military authority, and the fie*
4om of persons under the protection of the hn
Peas corpus. We demand for the individual
the largest liberty consistent with public order
for the Btete’i self-government, and for tho
nation a retnrr to tbe methods of peace and
tba eosititntional limitations of power.
fifth—The civil service o( the government
has become n mere instrument of partisan
tyranny end personal ambition, and an object
*f selfish greed. It is a scandal and reproach
Upon our free institutions, and breeds a demor
alisation dangerous to the perpetuity of repub
liean government. We therefore regard a
thorough’ reform of the civil service ** one of
the most pressing necessities of the hoar; that
honesty, capacity and fidelity constitute the
enly valid claims to public employment; that
the offices of tho government cease to bo a mat
ter of arbitrary favoritism and patronage, and
that publio stai ions become again posts of hon
or. To this end it is imperatively required that
a# President shall be a candidate fur re-elee-
tien.
Sixth—We demand a system of federal taxa
tion which shall not unnecessarily interfere
with the industry of the people, and which
•hall provide means necessary to pay the ex,
penaes of the government, economically admin-
istared, pensions, tbe interest on the public
debt, and a moderate reduction, annually, of
the principal thereof, and recognising that
there are in onr midst honest, but irreconcila
ble differences of opinion with regard to the
respective systems of protection and free trade,
wa remit discussion of tbe subjeot to the peo
ple in their eongressional distriets, and to tho
decision 01 Congress thereon, wholly free of
executive interference or dictation.
Seventh—Tbe public credit must he sacredly
maintained, and we denounce repudiation in
every form and gnise.
light—A speedy retnrn to specie payments
is demanded alikd by the highest considerations
•f commercial morality and honest government.
KintS—We remember with gratitude the
heroism end sacrifice ot the soldiers and sailori
ef the repnblie, and no act of ours shall ever
detract from their joetly earned fame or of the
ftill reward of their patriotism.
Tenth—We are opposed te all farther grunts
•f land* to railroads or other corporations.
The public domain should be held saered to
aetuel settlers.
eleventh—We hold that it is the duty ef the
gevernment, in its intercourse with foreign na
tions, tv cultivate the friendship of peaee by
treating with all on fair and equal terms, re
garding it alike dishonorable either to demand
what ia not right or to submit to whatis wrong.
Twelfth—For the promotion and success of
these vital principles, and the support of tbe
dandidates tinmi„at*A ay ita convention, we
invite and eordially welcome tho cooperation
of all patriotic eitixens, without regard to pre
vious political a ' liation.

It is not upon the healthy element* of the body that
worms exist, but ui>on the diseased humor* and slimy

Fever*, which are so prevalent in the valleys of oar
great rivers throughout the United States, especially
those of the Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Ten
nessee, Cumberland, Arkansas, Red, Colorado, Braroi,
Rio Grande, Pearl; Alabama, Mobile. Savannah, Roan
oke, James and many others, with their vast tributa
ries, throughout out entire country during the Summer
and Autumn, and remarkably so during seasons of
unusual heat an£dryness, are invariably accompanied
by extensive derangements of tht stomach and liver, and
other abdominal viscera. There are always mure or lest
obstructions of the liver, a weakness and irritable state
of the stomach, an*! great for|»or of the bowels, being
clogged up with vitiated accumulations. In their treat
ment, a purgative, exerting a powerful influence upon
these various organs, is essentially necessary. There is
no cathartic for the purpose equal to Dr. J- Walkm’s
Vinegar Bittkes, as they will speedily vemore tbe
dark colored viscid matter with which the bowels atn
loaded, at the same time stimulating the secreti«m» of
the liver, and generally restoring the healthy function*
of the digestive organs.
Scrofula, or King’* Kvll, White Swelling,

Inflammations, Indolent Inflammations, Mercurial Af
fections, Old Sores Eruptions of the Skin, Sore Eve*,
•tc., etc Its these, as in all other constitutional Dis
eases, Wai.kkk’s Vinegar Bitters have shown their
great curative powers in the most obstinate and intract
able cases.
Dr. Walker’* California Vinegar Binert
act on all these cases in a similar manner. By purifying
the Blood they remove the cause, and by resolving away
the effects of the inflammation (the tubercular deposits)
the alTected parts receive health, and a permanent euro
is effected.
The properties of Dr. Walker’s Vinegar
Bitters arc Aperient, Diaphoretic and Carminative,
Nutritious, Laxative, Diuretic, Sedative, Counter-lm*
tant. Sudorific, Alterative, and Anti-Bilious.
The Aperient and mild Laxative properties of
Dr. Walker* Vinegar Bitters are the best
cuard in all cases of eruptions and malignant fevers,
their balsamic, healing, and soothing properties protect
the humors of the fauces- Their Sedative properties
allav pain in the nervous system, stomach, and bowels,
either from inflammation, wind, colic, cramps, etc
TTieir Counter-Irritant influence extends throughout
the system. • Their Diuretic properties act on the Kid
neys, correcting and regulating the flow ot urine. Their
Anti-Bilimi* properties stimulate the liver, in the secre
tion of bile, and its discharges through the biliary ducu,
and are superior to all remedial agents, for the cure of
Bilious Fever, Fever and Ague, etc.
Fortify the hotly against disease bv puri
fying all its fluids with Vinegar Bitters. No epi
demic can take hold of a system thus forearmed. The
liver, the stomach, the bowels, the kidneys, and the
nerves are rendered disease-proof by this great uivu*
