An Aim.
Give me § man with an aim,
Whatever that aim may be.
Whether it’s wealth, or whether it’s fame,
It matters not to me.
Let him walk in the path of right,
And keep his aim in sight,
And work and pray in faith always
With his eye on the glittering heights,
y
Glee me a man who says.
‘•I will do something well,
And make the fleeting days
A story of labor tell!”
Though the aim he has be small,
It u better than none at all;
With something to do the whole year thro’
He will not stumble or fall.
t--:
Bui Satan weaves a snare
For the feet of those who stray,
With never a thought or a care
Where the path may lead away.
The man who has no aim,
Not only leaves no name
When this life is done, quite ten to one,
He leaves a record of shame.
Give toe's man whose heart
Is filled with ambition’s fire;
Who sets his mark in the start,
And keeps moving it higher and higher.
Better to die in the strife,
2 e hands with labor rife,
to’glide on the stream m am idle dream,
And lire a purposeless life,
; p\
Better to stHve and climb
Afid never reach the goal,
Thin to drift along with the time—
Ah aimless, worthless soul,
. Ah', better to climb and fall,
Or sow, though the yield be small,
Than to throw away day after day,
And never strive at all.
V. M. Borum;
J. A. Knighton
Borum, Sc
Knighton,
Raleigh Senu^ eI: “In Grant’s in-
augnralybe has frequent occasion to re
fer to the late war between the States,
and yet he never once uses the word
^rebpj’.or ‘rebellion.' He .speaks of a
‘great internal revolution/ the ‘late civil
strife/ ‘the States lately at war/ &c„
bu$ never once says ‘rebel’ or ‘rebellion.’
Onr Radical politicians and writers will
now have to take their cue and chai
their base likewise.. The real character
ofBB* War will become known and ac-

Htfenoth Sales of Georgia-made
Goods.
The Columbus Enquirer of Friday,
contained this paragraph:
The Eagle and Phoenix Manufactur
ing Company of this city last year sold
to two Macon houses §110,000 worth of
their goods; two Montgomery houses
took §82,000 worth; three New Or
leans houses, §160,000. Eight thous
and dollars worth of cottonades were
sold to New Orleans houses one day
last week. Very hejivy sales were also
made Jast year to New York, Cincinna
ti, Lonisville, St. Louis, Gsdveston, Mo-
bile, Atlanta, Savannah, to say nothing
of smaller towns and country stores.
Something less than §300,000 worth of
these goods were sold to Columbus mer
chants. These figures are enormous,
but they show what onr factories are
doing, and speak potently for more fac-
v tones. This year the sales are expect
ed to be much larger, provided our com
panies can turn out the goods. Three
cheers for our manufacturing interests!
- Cotton manufacturing in the South
its a most lucrative business. It is a mat
ter of regret that our capitalists do not
hivest more of their surplus funds in fac
tories. We saw it stated a few days ago
that a Massachusetts spinner was in Co
lumbus, Ga., with a view to changing
bis manufacturing investments to that
tbifcy.
•* The South ough within the next
fourth of a century, to successfully com
pete with the world in the manufacture
cif her own great staple. Let our peo
ple arouse and realise the importance of
Abe diversity of labor and capital.

Increase the powers of digestion, and excite
the absorbents to action, whereby all impuri
ties of the system are carried off. The old
stereotyped "opinion that calomel must be used
to “carry off the bile,” has given away be
fore the light of science. The vegetable king
dom furnishes a remedy, free from all dele
terious effects.
They act as kindly on the tender infant,
the most delicate female, and infirm old age,
as upon the most vigorous system, eradicat
ing every morbific agent, invigorating the
debilitated organs, building up the flagging
nervous energies.
