la Train Crazy.
A correspondent signing himself
‘•Minneapolis” writes to the New York
Sun that if he were put on the stand as
a witness in the inquiry whether George
Francis Train is sane or crazy, he would
declare on the Evangelists: “I believe
him to be a sounder minded man than
there is in the entire Republican party.”
‘•What reason have you for saying
that sir?” the district Attorney would
ask, with nose derisively high in the
“My reason is Train’s perfectly cor
rect estimate of the calibre and value of
Gen. Grant and Schuyler Colfax, ex
pressed by him two years ago in a lec
ture in St. Paul. He said that he never
met Grant that he did not feel an im
pulse to nm up to him and say: “My
dear Geneial, I have only a minute and
a half to dj>are, but I want you to tell
me all you kijpw.” Of the discredited
Mobilier he said that he turned more
machinery and made more noise with a
small engine than any man in the world
had done; #hd that he was ths only
grown up male citizens of the United
States who could divide a lump of-dough
with perfect easiness between a hundred
chickens.” *
