HOUSE H^LP.
Lemon Preserves —One pound of
pounded loaf sugar; quarter of a
pound of butter, six eggs, and the
whites of four well beaten, the rinds
of two lemons, arid the juice of three.
Mix together, and Simmer to the
consistency o r honey. Stir all the
time or it will burn.
Sugar Cakes.— \ pint of butter, \\
pint of sugar, 2 r-ggs, juice and grat
ed rind of one lemon \ teaspoon of
ftoda dissolved in two tablespoonfuls
of milk, a pinch of salt, flour enough
to enable iti<s dough to roll out ea
sily. A little nhtmeg. Roll thin.—
Cut in shapes, and dry on a seive
after baking.
FruitCake.—Wash and drain well
one pound of currants; chop not Tine
the same of raisins; chop or slice cine
half pound of citron. Beat five eggs
and two cups of brown sugar toge
ther; add one cup of butter, and one
of molasses; one half cup of sour
milk, with one large teaspoon of so
da; one teaspoon of all kinds, of spice
and six cups of flour, reserving half
a cup tG mix with the fruit to pre
sent it settling; add the fruit, last,—
Pitt a piece of buttered letter pape’r
on the bottom of your baking pan.
This w ill make one large loaf, and
will keep a year.
Shoe Blacking. —Place in a bottle
halt an ounce of gum shellac, broken
in small peices, cover with alcohol,
cork tight, and put in a warm place,
slujke it often. Add a piece P? gum
camphor the size of an egg,' shake
till dissolved; then add one ounce
of lamp black. The whole will lie
ready for use in two or three days.
If it becomes too * thick, add more
alcohol. Apply with a brush. This
blacking ill not leave the boots on
ly by wearing.
We give"ft fancy economical dish,
and warrant it to please —it is Lem
on Louple. Take the yolks of three
eggs, three ounces of sugar and the
grated rind of half a lemon. Boat
these together well; add the whites
of the eggs, beaten to a froth, and
the juice of half a lemon. Put all
into a deep dish and bake for ten or
fifteen minutes. Serve with a sauce
made of too well beaten eggs, tlie
grated peeljand juice of half a lemon.
Stir it over the fire till it begins to
rise. Care must be taken not to let
the Louple get two brown.

in court to shoot him at sight. Mr.
Childs the father of the girl was present,
