With sincere pleasure wet publish the annexed tribute, as grneefttl as deserved, to the accomplished lady (Mk of our ( ourt of Ordinary. It will meet a heartv response frerm every one, lawyer dr not, who has enjoyed the opportunity of wit nessing her efficiency. Jprdmrptrfess, heat ness. order and fidelity. AVe are aware that we possibly trench n P° n that womanly delicacy which con stitutes the chief charm of her sex and which she illustrates in the dffice, as truly and gracefully, as in the discharge of home duties as wife and mother. While her na tive delicacy Would shrink from bbtrusive praise, she swill pardon us for suggesting, that the public appreciate a difference be tween newspaper notoriety and an honest expression df public approval. The sub joined note is from one of our purest, most appreciated and honored old Democrats. Io plead oUr justification we rely upon that sterling goocl sense which induces the lady in question to utilize her leisure in proving herself a help-meet for a thriving, industrious husband, instead of frittering life away—a gay, frivoldife devotee of fash ions follies. Let this be our excuse for our seeming and only seeming indelicacy, when we, with our esteemed correspondent, say Honor to whom llonor is Dud; Messrs. Editors— ! had occasion, in company with a friend who had business, to call in the crffi9e of the Ordinary, when last in town and was surprised at the neatness and dispatch, with which the lady clerk, Mrs. Emery jfphnsdn discharged the duties of that high and responsible office. On my re turn liome. I mentioned the circumstance to some df my neighbors, many of whom had bad business with the office and learn cd, that by her promptness and efficiency in the business of the office, coupled with her courtesy and lady-like bearing in her varied transactions with the people, she had given entire and universal satisfaction and won, upon the esteem of all. 1 will here suggest, that if the Liberal Democratic party succeed in placing in this offiee an incumbent of their choosing, and he should need an assistant dr clerk, 1 know of no one who would, prove more acceptable to the entire people of this sec tion than the lady referred to. Yours truly. TIRED CREEK. The Great Circus Cuming. The Great Eastern Menagerie, Museum, Aviary, Circus and Balloon Show” will be here and give a show next Saturday in the afternoon and night. We are person ally acquainted with some of the managers of this monster combination, and they are men who do not deal in small things. Our people may look for something grand. As we have not seen the show, of course we cannot say precisely what is its char acter, but if we are to countenance news paper testimonials, it must be something beyond what lias ever visited this section before. We clip the subjoined notice from one of the leading Chicago papers as in dicative of the great success with which the Great Eastern met while in the West: The uuus'itally large canvases of the Great Eastern Circus and Menagerie, situ ated at the corner of Elizabeth aud Madi- I son streets, were crowded yesterday atter- I noon and evening to an alarming extent, i '1 he crush of humanity was so great that i the n’ng Was broken into, and the Very breathing places of the wild animals Visurned. It* vain the elephant went rdifnd ; in vain the baud began to.play, the-strug gling croWd was here, there, and every where. It was only when a large num ber of persons had left the pavillion that the performance'' Ov id proceed, and then half the programme had to be omitted. The rioling is of the most excellent order, hud the gymnastic feats and exercises brilliaiit. The circus will be in the city fora week, and the people will have am ple opportunity to see and Hear without crushing one another to death. The re ceipts were about $4,000. —Chicago Post, May 17. Tlie Flint Hirer Stores In another column will be found thb attractive advertisement of these two Stores, justly celebrated in this section of Gfebrgia. Mr. Simon Engel has just re turned from the principal western cities, where he has laid in a tremendous stock of Groceries. Mr. Julius Steininger made the selection of Dry Goods in New York, and all know no more experienced or tasty merchant could have performed the task. The Flint River Stores are now' crowded with perhaps the largest stocks that ever was exposed to sale in this city. The proprietors are both clever and agreeable gentlemen, liberal to a large degree, and Just the men to do business with. Among the salesman we find at the iower store. Mr. Robert A. Lytle, Mr. George Swabaeher and Mr. Mack Grass, three most affable and agreeable gentle men. At the upper store, Mr. Abe Smith, Mr. Henry Rothe and Mr. Ulmer, w ill be found, always ready to wait on customers. Go aud see for yourselves. Appointments for Speaking 1 . We refer -attention of our readers to the lists of appointments, to l>e found in an other column, of Gen. G. J. \N right, the nominee for Congress from this District and Maj. R. X. Ely. Elector. It will be observed that they will speak in Bain bridge ou the 18th iust., next W ednesday. They are both capable and brilliant ora. tors, and we hope to see every man in the comity, if p’ossible, out to hear them. They also speak at Lime Sink on next Tuesday, the day previous to their ap pointment at this place, by which arrange ment every man in the entire county can hear them. The colored people as well as white, are cordially invited to attend. H. B.Ehrlich. We are requested to state that this gen tleman has in store and tor sale, a large and selected stock of fancy and family groceries. Mr. Ehrlich has everything needed by the hungry, and is selling at. figures which cannot fail to satisfy. The Ehrlich boys are clever and obliging, an and quite popular in this city. Give them a call. Hashes, Flashes, Dashes and Mashes. Autumnal breezes pervade our town n'rir. Fall fashions are beginning to show themselves. About this time of the year raercharris should judiciously advertise their fall at tractions. The circus posters are up and the little boys are happy. Willis Crawford's speech last Saturday would have done very Well, if he would have taken some of the feathers diit of the wings of his imagination and put them in the tail of his judgment. Twd more of our merchants. Mr. Ju lius Steininger and I. M. Rosenfeld,' Esq., have returned from New York. The for mer gentleman has been quite ill. The Sun is now regarded as one of the best weeklies in the State. So say all OUr exchanges and so testify the people. Tlie political cauldren in this county is boiling and bubbling, but is not yet seeth ing hot. Everybody should attend the Young Men’s Democratic Club next Saturday . The public ?.re invited. Never give a man advice unless he asks far it, and then be all-fired stingy with the article. l’robe Collier says there are three things he always keeps elean, his shirt bosom, his face and his conscience There is a young lady in this city who has corns on her fingers. The neighbors say she has a piano. We saw the last watermelon of the sea son disposed of this week. We learn that Capers King, Esq., is in Mit'chell 'county very sjek. W e saw Simon Weil struggling under a Greeley hat this week. Simon has not only swallowed that “bitter pill,” but put the old fellow on. I. M. Rosenfeld has opened a branch store on the Western side of the square. Go it Rosy, nothing like enterprise and— oyster sotijr. A little fifteenth went into a bar room the other day and said to the keeper in a half whisper: “R a little boy isn't got no money, how much dram you gib era fer notin.” ITe got a dose that done him some good- Now is the time for merchants and oth ers to advertise, and the Sun is the paper. There was a tremendous fall in Bain bridge whiskey last Tuesday night on wa ter street, but Probe Collier, enterprising man, appeared in the mafket and raised the stock. Sheriff Waugh has been quite sick. We would urge on our delinquent sub scribers to pay up as early as possible. The Fall travel has commenced in good earnest. D. J. G. McNair and M. N. Scott, have returned from New York. Van Horn is going to run a milk wag on. A complete stock of first-class family groceries, consisting of new mackerel in kits and quafter barrels, cheese, butter, sugar, coffee, bacon, flour, rice, salt, crack ers, pickles, jellies, &c., at Steininger & Engel’s. Mr. P. J. Morrison has gone to New York on a Visit. Louis Robb's gun bursted one day last week while he was in theact Os discharg ing it. r i he Baiabridge knights Are going to Thomasville. Business is beginning to liven up con siderably. Dr. Judson A. Butts and .fames L. But ler, shall and must be our next representa tives. Derascrat* do your duty. Steininger & Engle are just recliViiig from the West and North, the largest stock of Groceries ever brought to Bainbridgt;, which they are offering at prices to suit the times. We have a good ticket for Representa tives. Let everybody vote it. Capt. Ben J. Russell, of Baker county, was in town iris week. Meeting and Organization Os the Democratic Club. Pursuant to appointment the Young Men's Liberal Democratic Club, which was organized here some two weeks since, met at the court house last Saturday. Dr. H. S. Jones was called to the chair, and presided throughout the ratheb Idngtfcy meeting with marked patience. R. M. Johnston was requested to act as secreta ry. . Cols. Munnerlyn and McGill and E. C. Bower, being the regularly appointed or ators of the day, the chairman called On the gentleman. Owing to indisposition Col. Munnerlyn was compelled to decline. E. C. Bower was then called for, and made a very pretty little speech, entirely characteristic of himself. He made some good poinf3 dud gave some good advice to Democrats. Col. Daniel McGill then made a speech of about half an hour. The Col. was very eloquent and forcible, and though his auditory was rather small, he lacked nothing in enthusiasm and rigor. The election of permanent officers was held and resulted as follows : President i —Hon H. S. Jones. Vice President—LT Oscar Jackson, Eoq. Sec’t’y—R. M. Johnston. Treasurer —Wm. Warfield. Corresponding Sec’t’y—W h>. Jones. On motion of Capt. C. G. CampbeD. a committee of five was appointed to draft and enroll members of the club. The committee consists of H. S. Jones, L. O. Jackson, Henry McTyre, Gordon Brad well and E. C. Bower. The club adjourned to meet on Satur day the 21st inst. H S. Joses, President. R. M. Johnston, Sec’t’y. Fresh Turnip Seed and winter Cab bage Seed for sale by X. R. WardeU. Dru^ist. Nominations To-Day. This is the day for the Radicals to nom inate candidates for this county aud Sena torial District We have, front our side of the house, three candidates. Col. Gee. the nominee of the party, Major Bruton and Judge Maples, independent. If two of these do not come down the race is beat. We heard it rumored era yesterday that Gee and Maples are about to 1 come down in favor of Bruton. If that b the case, we are safe, as Bruton would fn that event be elected by perhaps the largest majority ever received hv any man in the District. Let us have unity. In writing the above we wish ft distinct ly understood that we are not assuming the roll of counsellor and advising Col. Gee to withdraw, as life has our hearty sup port, but in case he does, we shall give our earnest efforts in behalf of Bruton. The question arises right here, has Gee the right or can he feel called on to withdraw after being nominated by hfs party ? That is a question for him to de cide with his own conscience, and if the rumor above stated is correct, we feel thrit Col. Gee is actuated and guided by motives which will result in the ultimate good of the patty and principles we all love so well. Pont Office Stores. In another column will be found the ad vertisement of the Pbsi Office Stores; pre sided over by I. M. Rosenfeld. Mr. R. has brought out one of the finest stocks that will be found in the market this sea son, and he is positively determined to sell as cheap as any competitor in the city. Those wishing dry gooods, groceries, dress goods, clothing, boots, shoes, hats, caps, willow tysre, &c., would find it to their interest to give “Rosy” a calf. Mr. Rosenfeld has four first-class sales men employed. Mr. Led with, formerly of the £>un, Mr. Charles Levy, Mr. Water man and Mr. Darden, all clever and agree able gentlemen. He is selling bagging and ties at Savan nah prices, and other goods at correspond ingly low figured. Give him a call before laying in your supplies^ Attention Decatur fco. Knig-hts? You are respectfully invited to attend the Thortutsrille Tournament, which takes place on Nov. first. Those wishing to participate, will re port to W. W. Wright, Bainbridge, who will enroll and forward their names. An entrance fe'e of $5 will be required to be paid the Sec’y of the South Geor gia Agricultural and Mechanical Associa tion, who will furnish him with a season ticket to the ground free of charge. Prize—choice between a fine horse, and an elegant Gents gold Watch and chain-. Dont let Decatur be behind. Poisoned.— Mr. J. H. Merritt and his family were poisoned Monday morning last, in a very mysterious way. They all sat down to breakfast in good health. After eating, they were seized with adizi ness of vision, in fact perfect blindness and other disagreeable sensations, that clearly indicated the presence of poison. Tommy AVhite, a clerk of Mr. Merritt, is very ill from its effects. The rest are well nigh free from the poison. The family can form no idea, as to how. aud by whom the poison was administered. Mr. Jacob Haight.— We see by the programmes that Mr. Jacob Haight, an old acquaintance of ours, is Treasurer of the Great Extern Circus and Menagerie, and will visit our city on next Saturday with the show. No cleverer or more agreeable showman ever visited the South ern States, and we will be glad to take Jacob by the band. The very fact of Ins name being connected with the show con vinces us that it is genuine, and we would urge our people to see it. Look out for a warm welcome up this Way, Jacob, old boy. B.
