HOARSE SHOT.
Whenever you see a doktor who

Let he is looking for a job.
The bulk of mankind are mere imi
tators of very poor originals.
It iz a grate deal easier tew be a
philosopher after a man has had a
warm meal than it iz when he don’t
know whare he is going to git one.
Most men lament their condishun
in life, there are but phew, after all,
who are superior to it.
To never dispair may bi God like,
but ain’t human.
Affektashun looks well in a mon
key.
Tricing to define love Is like Trie

the ice ; all you know about it iz, yu
fell in and got ducked.
The prinsipal important of a mid*
lory is the mistery itself.
Wlmt makes a ghost so respekta

Baw one.
The pedigree that we receive from
our ancestors iz like the money we
rocoivo from them ; we are not ex*
poctod to live on the principle, but
on the accumulation and transmit
tho principle unimpaired.
A weak man wants at much watch
ing as a bad man.
It iz hard work tew define human
happinoss ; the real possessor ov it
iz the verry one who kant define it.
Wealth is no guard against villainy;
thore iz as much iniquity amung the

tow numbers.
A wise man nevor enjoys himself
so much nor a phool so little, as when
alone.
Avarice iz as hungry as the grave.
Thero iz a great deal of virtew in
this world that iz like jewelry, more
for ornament than use.
I am satisfied that courage in men
h oftener the effekt ov konstitution
than ov principle.
About the best thing that experi

Paterfamilias groan and Maritus
sigh. Here it is. Every lady with
the least approach to good taste is
at length beginning to understand
the true secret des Parisiennes;
merely that not only must every
component part of the toilette cor
respond in style, but that the whole
toilette itself must be in accordance
With the season, the time of day, the
Occasion on which it is worn.
Scandal.
It is a curious reflection, to make, but
probably a just one, that scandal flourishes
all the more because seandel mongers re
ceive no gain from r their proceedings.—
Many other crimes are attended by person
td gain, and what is gained often furnishes
the means of detection and punishment.
If by a merciful provision of nature, it was
arranged that a portion of the charaete f
taken away by K&ndal should attach itself
to those who invent or propagate the scan
dal, the world like the birds in the fable,
would be ready to fly upon the scandal
mongers and deprive those daws of the
plumes thus gained. In the present state
of affairs, these lovers and propagators of
scandal do not gain the smallest shred of
honor or reputation by their scandal mon
gering aud consequently they feel much
less shame and meet with much less re
proof as their civil sayings are attended
by no personal advantage. It is only very
nice and sensitive consciences tbsrt enable
their owners to suffer remorse when they
have heedlessly invented'or furthered scan
dal.
