THE WEEKLY SUN U * To the Voters ofGe&fgia. As an old roan, devoted to the best interests of Georgia, and deeply concerned for her fatare, and not as a politician, I desire to address you h few words of sober reflection. The election for Governor will be held on the 2d day of October — There are two candidates for that Office— one a Democrat, nominated u nnaimously by a large and intelligent convention of the people, because of his patriotic, wise and honest admin istration of the Seale Government; the’other a Radical nominated by a few white men in a convention of negroes, because these white men and negroes, and their candidate, sere opposed to an honest and pa triotic administration of the Govern ment. To prove this I ask your attention to the following facts: Keep it before the people, that Bullock went into office with this declaration on his; “I am on the make.’’ Keep it before the people, that Bullock and Kimball plundered and robbed the State of millions of dol lars by issuing spurious and illegal bonds! Keep it before the people, that Bullock Blodgett & Cos., robbed the State Road of hundreds of thousands bf dollars! Keep it before the people, that Governor Smith, during lbs short adminitiation, has been busily and success "ally engaged in making these rogues disgorge or in having them brought to justice, and that by bi3 honesty and vigbance. aided by a Democratic Legislature, he has caused many thousands of the peo ple’s money thus stolen- to be return ed to the Tr easury ! Keep it before the people, that Bullock used the paidoning power for coirupt, political purposes, and that during his administration, the Verdicts of juries and the judgements of the courts vve v e a nulity, and crime was rampart! Keep it before the people, that Since the election of Governor the pardoning power has ceased to be used for cunupt purposes, the judgement of the Courts have been respected, and there has been a marked and m 1 oat on of crime! Keep it be-ore the people, that dar ing bullocks scores of ourpeoole aU over Nothern Geor gia. we- e dragged from their business and their homes, under trumped up Ku-K.l'ix charges, and carried to At lanta to have their liberties sworn awav or imperiled by perjured wit nesses ! Keep it before ibe people, that since Governor Sm'ih’s accession to office, the Ku-Klim o ganizatioD. if it eve.’ e:> steel has melted away, and peace and quiet now reign through out oar bonders. Keep ]t be so e the people, that Bullock oeheved in the sobordina tion of ihe civ.l to the miJila-'y au thorii’y; that he invoked the aid of tuelaiier in a-jesUng so-called C'imieahs and secured a large garri son in the State to piotecfc hitn in li."s villainy! Keep it be'o,. e the people, that unaer a tvise and Tmpavt'al admiois. ♦ration of the laws, the civil power is ample to p otect the lives and libei ties of the people: and that, in recognit ou of the tact that they a. e no longer needed, the Federal sol diers in this State have dwindled to a “corporal's gjfiYtl.” Keep it befoie the people, that Governor Smith’s administration has been the very opposite of Bullock’s in evepV particular! £eep it before the people, that the election of Walker would be a vindi cation of Eullock aud a condemna tion of Smith—it would be an em phatic endorsement of corruption and villainy, and the restoration to power and respectability of those who have pluadeied the Treasury and disgraced the State. Bullock rful Blodgett, with their ihievifag ciew, now hiding from the ministers of justice, would joyfully camh the signal and back to the theatre of tbetr crimes* would defi antly flaunt their paidotts ia our faces. Democrats, Liberals anct all true men of Georgia, who desbes honest and good gov. and who aje oposedto public plandeiiug, remembe- this, I and stav not away from the pohs! — j Remember, too that the enemy is | active and thoroughly organized, i and will b.<jDg every man to tha f.-ont on the 2d of October. You can cm vy tbe day, if yon but will it.— Victory is withiu the 1 each of earnest manly effo.t. I appeal to Democrats I —both “>caight” and “Gieeley” ! Democrats—to defer the Presiden tial question, and imite as one man to re an in the Executive office the | picseut iucumbeot, Governor Smith iu whose hands the interest of all will be safe.
